TPS and ICM Question

Coincidentally, my neighbor has chickens and we are battling the same problem.  We also feed the birds peanuts, raisins and sunflower seeds, so we are a big food source.  I just put 3 traps out last week.

See this regarding S124, it should be easy to locate and get to.

Sorry for the crappy photo

The location is promising given your rat issue, but, it may just be moisture corrosion.  I hope this is it

The chickens aren't bad if people would store the feed in sealed containers and not throw the feed all over the back yard. Be careful with the traps. I only put them out at night. If you leave them out during the day you'll catch squirrels. Any kind of feeder we bring in at night, too. I would put traps on the engine cover and catch the rats. I probably got 10 just under the hood. I have cameras around the house so I was able to see where they're coming from. Under the fence from the chicken neighbors house. I caught a crap load putting the traps at the fence. I got to where when I caught them I'd throw them in the white trashes pool. Can't tell you how many times I'd hear them yelling "EWWWWW there's a dead rat in the pool" LOL.. ?

Thanks! This is great! I'll look into this tomorrow and see what I can find.

I would highly suspect that wire.

It may have voltage but not enough under load.

Especially if it is at the splice itself.

You are for sure on the right track

I figured the rats I caught came from their yard so I threw them back. They always landed in their pool. LOL.. They were terrible neighbors. Nothing but white trash.

Well I'll get at it in the afternoon. I'll let you know. Thanks again!

Don't even know what a factory splice looks like, but I'm sure I'll know as soon as I see it. ?

Well I don't really know what it is I'm looking for, but the wires look fine. No chew marks at all in the harness. Everything was in nice and tight and the plugs are clean as is the pcm. I don't see any kind of splice so I don't know what else to look for. ? ? ?

I think you need to poke around some more.

It won't be out in the open.....it will be wrapped up pretty good with tape....sometimes you can feel a lump in the wires.

Most will be sonic welded as shown.

OK, any idea how far up into the harness it'll be? I untaped another inch or so after this pic. Would you know what color the wires are? I'll look through it again tomorrow. Thanks, Logan! ? ?

Wires may be red. Probably more toward the engine. PCM harnesses should be fine.

The wire you are looking for is larger in diameter than the ones to the PCM. Also likely by itself or in a bundle without a ton of wires

It's obvious you had a infestation. They like to chew on wires. There have actually been some lawsuits due to automakers using soy based plastics for the harness.

Fisher posted the schematic.......splice S124......circuit 639......pink wires.

I looked at ever inch that can be seen and there is no part of the wire harness that I can see that's been chewed on. I'm not a mechanic and have no idea how to read schematics. As I've said many time here on this site I have no clue as to what I'm doing, so I need a little more info than most of you guys. But, it doesn't matter anymore. I'm done. I give up.. I'm just gonna drive it till it blows and then the junkyard can have it. So anyways, thanks again for the info.

15.5 cm equates to 6.1 inches.   The location is 6.1 inches into PCM connector breakout.  So it would be 6.1 inches from where the PCM wires connect to the larger wire conduit, not from the PCM connector.   I would unwind the joint 6.1 inches up into the larger conduit. (See below, in the next post, I rethought this, it is 6.1 inches INTO the breakout, I edited this)

You should be close to finding this, I know you are frustrated, I think you are almost there.   A way to find this would be to go to the C1 connector and trace the pink wire at C19 up the bundle till you find the splice.    Have patience, you may have fixed this already by R&Ring the PCM connectors

I went to the grocery store and this occurred to me.  I edited above to clarify INTO the breakout.

It just occurred to me what the wording meant regarding splice 124 its 6.1 in into the PCM connector Breakout you went out of the PCM connector breakout I believe you need to go in 6in from where the PCM connector conduit breaks out.

Thanks again for the info, but I quit. I'm not going any further into the harness. Would have been a lot easier if I did this when the TB was off. It's just too darn hot out to keep messing with this and I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. Don't even know 100% if this is the problem. I'm not gonna need this car too much longer so I'll deal with it and then send it to the yard. Actually, I'll try and sell it for $4 or $500 first. Junkyards only gonna give me around $290.00.. Maybe someone will buy it for the wheels and Vogues.. ?

Well the car is idling really high and it fluctuates a lot. I cleaned the TB with it still on the motor and it's pretty much clean. The butterfly? is clean and shiny on both sides. When I ran the codes it gave me the TPS code. I forgot the number. So I'm gonna change that next. So next question, how do I know what way the gasket goes?

It could be rather wiring/connector issue than the TPS itself. You can test TPS with  a $10 mutimeter for smooth operation. Just watch Ohms change while moving the lever of the TPS by hand.

OK folks, in case anyone was wondering. Took the car to a mechanic and they couldn't find the extremely high idle problem. No vacuum leaks were found. They had the car for 4 days and their guess is a bad PCM. They didn't charge me so the next step may be the Caddy dealer. Going back to the P1634 Code. If the splice in the harness was bad, would that cause the idle problem, or is that just a totally different issue?  There are soooo many posts about this high idle problem and every one of them has no fix and no posts to let anyone know if it was ever fixed and what the problem was. I will update if it ever gets fixed.

Well dealer wants $250.00 to check it so it's not going there.

So, can anyone answer this question?

Going back to the P1634 Code in this post. If the splice in the harness was bad, would that cause the idle problem, or is that just a totally different issue all together???? It gets extremely high. 4000+ RPM's

Took the wife to Tampa airport and was doing 75MPH over the bridge without touching the gas. It's getting to the point where I can't drive it anymore. My rotors are warped from riding the brakes and they're getting so hot they're failing. Just too dangerous to drive anymore.

Have you tried the isc motor? Could it somehow be getting out of position and raising your idle?

I attached the procedure to raise and lower the isc motor from the dic.  Maybe exercising the motor might help fix the issue or reveal if it is the culprit

Try to recap here.

What are the current pcm codes?

Do you have access to a scantool? If so you need to view IAC counts.

Is there any kind of a noise or whistle coming from the engine?

I reviewed my thread from back in 2011 and remember someone mentioning the blowby valve. It is located on the passenger side of the intake , behind the power steering pump( it is on the intake). MAnually manipulate the valve. It should spring closed when let go and seal tightly. Let me see if I can find a pic.

My issue was the TB gasket. I inadvertently installed it backward.

Once reinstalling it correctly and clearing the codes problem never returned

Current codes are P1634 - P2511 - P2515 - C0073

No, don't have access to scantool.

No, don't hear anything coming from the engine.

I'll look into the blowby valve in the afternoon.

This was happening before I cleaned the TB. But I was very careful with the gasket after you said you did that. I'm positive the gasket is on correctly.

I don't really want to sink a lot of money into this car, but I need it for a few more months. It's a hard fix because it's my car. Anyone else and it would be a vacuum hose standing there waving at you like one of these inflatable dudes. LOL.. Just the luck I have.. HA!

I'm not really able to get my fingers in where the blowby is, but, I took the car to another shop and they did a smoke test for a vacuum leak and it had smoke coming out on both sides of the intake manifold. They said it's possible that the intake is cracked, but won't really know for sure till they get in there and check. Problem is they're talking $300.00 just for the labor to R&R it. Could it be intake gaskets? I've been looking at videos on line for R&R the intake.. I'm kinda scared to try it myself.

It definitely could be the intake manifold gaskets, no question about it.  Especially given your description of it being intermittent at times.  A crack would be constant.

Personally, removing the intake to me is a little intimidating the first time you do it, but not hard at all.

I will give you my cell number and we can talk though the job together.   I will give you a step by step with tools required.

Let me know
