Try to out a 5.3 in my 2011 cts coupe has anyone done this before

Not without a lot of trouble, stock is a 3.6L?   Keep in mind that the engine and transmission operate as a single unit, the PCM looks for specific data from sensors like ABS, traction control,  cam, crank, etc.

Why do you want to do this?

I purchased the car with no engine and I have a donor car I can get the 5.3 engine and tranny from  but I’ve dint my research and I’m going to move forward with the swap

I will be interested in seeing how you interface with the abs, IPC, traction control, gear ratio, speed sensitive steering etc.  Keep us in the loop.

The problem is, you need the 5.3 PCM to operate the powertrain ,but that PCM can't communicate with the rest of the vehicle.
