Owen sabiston
have a 1996 Sedan Deville. Vehicle has an intermittent start/ stay started problem. I start vehicle and sometimes it keeps running. Sometimes it runs for about 3to 8 seconds and shuts off. Once it does this, I can restart it once but it will shut down in same time frame. Then it's done for the day. It may or may not start the following day. If it starts and stays running it runs just fine. I call it my one way car. It will take there but won't bring you home have checked fuel pump- is within specs. Fuel pressure regulated was week so put new one one. Same problem. Seems to start in garage better and stay running . More failure to keep running if outside. Car is plugged in outside. Have recently had two keys cut from originals, but these were ordered through Cadillac and cut by them
barczy01
What is within spec psi of the fuel pump? Is it a clean cut off of the car or a cuggle then it will quit?
Owen sabiston
It's a clean cut off. It's as if you shut your key off. Does it twice , then won't fire till next day as far as specs on fuel pump, mechanic say he checked out in front of regulator so got a true picture of fuel pump pressure. I don't know the minimums for pressure but from what he told me there are specs and it meets them
barczy01
has the car been sitting inside/outside for a period of time? Any PCM codes?

Has started no problem outside ( -16 C) doesn't seem to matter. What maters more is if this is the first start of the day or the third start. If we start and drive in mourning, leave it alone all day it may start in evening . If we start it at noon after shutting it off in mourning, then chances are it won't start in evening . Leave it overnight and you have a better chance it will start following mourning
Papalac
Just wondering-does it do the same thing with the original key and did it just start the problem after using new keys?
Owen sabiston
It doesn't seem to make a difference. It appears that the car needs to be off for 8 hrs before trying to start it. It will not stay started after 4 hrs. Just tried it
