bdiamond
I installed reman heads in this 1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville 4.5L six months ago. Except for a broken valve spring episode one month afterward, the car ran beautiful. Slowly it started to consume oil. Then little by little a LOT of oil. About a quart every 200-300 miles. I think the rebuilder (City Motor Supply, Dallas) installed the wrong seals. Anyone know the best valve seals to use? I will do a compression test tonight. Take a look at the plugs after only 5K miles. What do you think? TIA

bdiamond
I did the compression check (on a cold engine). 1 - 170 3 - 170 5 - 168 7 - 162 2 - 165 4 - 162 6 - 160 8 - 170 Does that confirm that the valve oil seals are bad? I added the PSI number to the image of the spark plugs. http://www.glocktech.net/c Any recommendation would be appreciated. TIA
67coupedeville
How many miles were on the car when you put the new heads on? What I know is that if you put a new set of heads on an older engine, it will bump up compression from the older heads thus causing added stress on the old piston rings. The new compression will be too much for the old rings to handle and they will begin to deteriorate. Just my $0.02 Spence
bdiamond
The motor had around 144K when I installed the heads. Before that the oil was changed every 4K with Mobil1. Current compression if 160 to 170 in all cylinders. This is down from 180 in all cylinders after the heads were installed. 165 is factory spec (I believe).
