AaronM
I was watching the news this morning and they said that the avg. gas price for Michigan is $1.93/gal (1.99 at the local Mobile). They said that in the next few weeks it is suppose to rise to $2.50! Ouch! Atleast we have it better than Europe or California, haha! I might have to cut back on the WOTs! NOOOO! I gotta do the WOTs! danbuc
I've never seen gas prices fluctuate more wildly, than anywhere except on the east coast. Here is West Chester, PA I can drive to school in the morning, and premium might be $1.99 a gallon. By the time I leave school at night, I drive past te gas station, and it's already $2.07. The next day it might be $2.01, and then $2.12 later that night. It's rediculous. I filled up my tank this morning, and it was $2.09 a gallon for premium. It will probably be $2.05 tomorrow, and then $1.97 the next day. I find my self trying to fill up my tank on the cheapest day, regardless of whether or not I really need to. I guess you get a deal 'cause you are closer to Iran On the west coast we hover around 91 cents a litre... and go up and down 3 or 4 cents from there... gygmy
I paid $1.89 per. gal for 87 octane today at a truck-stop. I guess that's pretty cheap until I factor in how much I pay for controling the oceans that the super tankers sail on. Protecting, or taking over, the overseas oil fields. Factor in the money we spend doing that and then those European prices do'nt look so bad. Such is modern American life, gotta factor in those "hidden" costs. At CAN $0.82 per liter you are paying US $2.35 per US gallon and CAN $0.89 per liter would be US $2.55 per US gallon using yesterday's exchange rate of 0.756. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. JohnnyG
Gasoline in 2005 is the old "Tech Stocks" of pre-2000. The market is being driven by the investors, nothing more. There is no real basis for the run up in oil prices other than a bunch of guys wanting to make a bunch of money on their investments. Some of the big investors? Fidelity for one. Where do you think their employees put THEIR 401K money? The war makes it believable, WE make it possible. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed. JohnnyG
Beutel said refiners add ingredients in summer months to slow down the evaporation rate of gasoline so that vapors won't pollute the air or waste your gas. It's also the season when traders and refiners tend to make killings on gasoline futures. This guy doesn't know CRAP about gasoline! You take OUT the butanes and light ends to make gasoline evaporate slower in the summer! (It's MANDATED by the Gov't.) See: Clean Air Act 101! But he does seem to know a little about investing! Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

TDK
This is a long article and much of it is not really new. The tail end gets a bit political... But, it is something to consider - if nothing more, than to appreciate alternative points of view. http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cf...=36&ItemID=5351 Regardless of the above article, and even though it gets 23.5 mpg at 82.5 mph, I don't drive a Caddy to pinch pennies. Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.
