Looking for a mechaninc in Ontario willing to work on 99 Northstar deville.

Hello. Had a misfire problem you guys helped last year, turned out to be a bdaly carbon tracked plug. Now more recently i have had the dreaded overheating issue and was able to get a set of studs for my block, took everyhting apart and got the front head done no problem.  Now I'm having trouble getting the rear head studded as i do not have a hoist and the more i attempt to do this the more i realize I am way beyond my pay grade here.  I'm a weekend warrior and dropping the cradle with jacks and stands seems way to difficult for me as i lack experinece with this sort of maneuvre.  The motor is completely taken apart and i didnt have much probelm studding the front head.  Now im totally frustrated and sick of treading water.  I am looking to find a mechanic who has a hoist and would be willing to drop the cradle, stud the rear head, set the timing and put the motor back in the car. I have gaskets, taps and studs, and everyhting needed. To save costs i will handle putting the rad, alt, motor mounts and all that stuff back on myself after.  Its literally about a 6 hour job for someone who knows what theyre doing, and has a hoist.  Can someone please put me in touch with a mechanic who is willing to do this?  I called two shops i sometimes use and both refused at the first mention of northstar even though it woudl be quite simple for someone with a hoist.  Also please do not recommend the guy who makes the studs as i had to pursue him for two months in order to buy the studs, and then asked for his help recently, which i offered great money and he agreed, then ghosted me again.  I refuse to beg and plead with this guy anymore.  Please help i am frustrated and sick of seeing my beautiful deville sitting motionless in the shop.  Any recommendations??

I would help you out but your a bit far from me. That's why the NS300L would work great for you being your doing your repair in the car. What is you did the rear bank with the ns300L? That way you could complete the job yourself and save all that money. You could use the other 10 studs for a nice heavy duty darts!

4 hours ago, TheRoger said:

I heard that too about the cracking blocks im sure thats more of a rumor as the other studs are almost exactly the same.

How do you know that "other studs" are exactly the same?  How can you make a definitive statement like that?

Like I said, there is a company selling studs and they have experienced cracking.  Because studs look alike does not mean they are engineered alike.

You used a tag Northstar head gasket studs, why?, when you were looking for a mechanic?

Umm? not sure about the reasoning behind your question here.  Thats the job i want done thats why i tagged it. I have no issue with the product i recieved.  I shared with you my private thoguhts on the matter on PM.  From what i now gather from a quick google search on the matter theres a lot of dramatic he said she said nonsense related to this issue, which i want zero part of.   You can cut the sherlock holmes routine i found the help i need, will allow me to get the job done.  Thred can be deleted.

Far as i can tell on the net there are two major makers of studs, both of whom claim the others crack's blocks.  Both looked to be of the same design.  I went with my own countryman, and because of the convenience that i had opportunity to pick them up.  Other than that ill just be glad to get my deville back on the road

Listen, I dont like your suspicious post here or attitude.  It was not last year that you had a misfire it was September 2016.  You began annonomously attacking the stud producer in your first post here with this "Also please do not recommend the guy who makes the studs"

You make a statement you have no support for "   I heard that too about the cracking blocks im sure thats more of a rumor as the other studs are almost exactly the same".

Almost exactly the same?  Are you a metallurgist?, did you notice that one uses a jig when the other does not?  You know nothing about the metallurgiical details of these studs. Given that you were looking for a mechanic based on the title, this thread is suspicious.

Keep in mind that we don't know who you are at all and we dont want a continuation of the badmouthing that has been going on.  For all I know, you are the fellow from Texas stirring up trouble.  And by the way, ALL of the badmouthing is coming from the texas company against the canadian company NOT visa versa, go look at the texas company's facebook page and his youtube videos.  The canadian company is continually attacked.

Stop with the hearsay!!!!   I know for a fact that the texas company's studs are cracking blocks NOT visa versa, as I said, see BenATX here, the block was cracked, period, and there are others.  The texas company promotes free hand drilling and tapping, a big no no.  So yes, you purchased the right studs with alignment jig, so that is good.

Whether you intended it or not, your thread here is suspicious.   Glad you got a mechanic to finish the job you started.

Attitude? Youre making accusations over there how should i respond?  What should i have tagged? Vortec head studs?  My car is a northstar engine.  head studs is the job i want done.  I dont really care about who said what, its a moot point, i already have studs, half of which are installed.  Dont care about who said what about whom i already have studs so its a moot point isnt it.  I dont care for your accusations or suspicions.

I just wish i never soaked so much money into this worthless car i would just scrap the GD thing.  All i have said is my honest account of my dealings with the aforementioned company/individual not some smear campaign.  You sound like the one with an agenda here ijust want my stupid car to be fixed already.

I made NO accusations, I asked SPECIFIC questions, you flew off the handle. stating to delete the thread and calling me   Sherlock Holmes.

You are jumping on something insignificant, the TAG......   but combined with all the other oddities it was a strange tag

You are escalating this to accusations when your first post, which was suppose to be about finding a mechanic went into areas it should not have, namely

"Also please do not recommend the guy who makes the studs as i had to pursue him for two months in order to buy the studs, and then asked for his help recently, which i offered great money and he agreed, then ghosted me again.  I refuse to beg and plead with this guy anymore"

You didn't come here prior to the head gasket job to diagnose the overheating, when you said you had the "dreaded overheating" issue for help in resolving it, but you came here regarding a misfire?   Suddenly you have an engine torn apart and you are complaining about a stud manufacturer and advising not to use him?   I am sorry that is VERY random and unnecessary.

Oddly the very day you posted here, the fellow from Texas began ripping people who reviewed him.   the fellow from Texas has many followers who try to muddy the fellow from Canada.   Badmouthing people wont be tolerated here, you even cited the other Cadillac board which became a free for all.

You needed a mechanic?, that is where this discussion should have remained, not recommending we don't recommend someone OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE.

Scrap it.   I don't want a battle here or bad mouthing, the fellow from Texas is nasty and has been publically attacking the fellow from Canada badly.  No agenda, I just know a lot about what is going on. Ill bet you never read the BenATX thread did you?   You have 50 posts here, for you to come here and bash someone and recommend we don't use someone is inappropriate.   I don't know what your encounter with him was like, maybe it was partly you?, who knows, but that is not for us to sort out here.  I will call Northstar Performance to find out the facts about this through.

By the way, the TAG which you feel is wrong for me to bring up, makes a google search (northstar head gasket studs) easy and your negative statements get ascribed to the Canadian fellow, THAT is why I don't like your TAG.

The reason i asked not to recommend him is becasue i apporached him and offered him good money to do the job, whcih he said he would accomodate when he was in ontario, then never got back to me.  I tried to follow up and got no reply.  I asked for him not to be recommended BECAUSE I ALREADY TRIED TO HIRE HIM.   If hes too busy he could have always emailed me and said so not agree to help then ghost.  ALso since i am located in canada i assumed the natural respnse would be "hire so and so" since he is the go to guy for this area.  I dont care about the guy from texas nor do i have any interest inhis studs or business.  Im not lying or smearing anyone just telling you my personal experience with dealing here.  I had hoped to hire Jake since he is obviously the best guy for the job, but have found on a few occasions that his customer service is lacking.  So instead of beggin him i am looking for someone else.  I ahve found someone else.  I was asking what you know about blacks cracking out of curiosity not any angle.  Youre the one telling me my thread is suspicious whixh i take as an accuataion of having some alterior motive.  I do not.

I never recommended anyone not use someone.  I just stated the truth about my experience.  I actually wanted to hire the guy and still would have if he wasnt so difficult to deal with.  I have no doubt Jake is the best guy for the job, thats why i was willing to pay him top dollar.

When my engine went i did some light reading around the net, decided studs would be better than inserts, And bought jakes studs WHICH I AM SATISFIED with the product.  My experice working on cars comes from a 68 chevelle i built years ago when i was younger, and basic jobs on my truck, brakes and the like.  I am not a pro mechaninc.  Dealing with a front drive V8 is more difficult than anticipated.

What i am saying is that it took several attempts to get him to sell me studs in the first place.  Then when i was struggling and decided id rater hire for the rest of the job i was very happy he agreed to help, and i offered him basically whatever he wanted money wise and offered to transport him here and everything.  HE AGREED then i never heard from him again.  I'm sorry if this guy is your hero or sotmehing but that is my experience, the FATCTS of the matter, and it is bad customer service in my books.  Have you ever been frustrated with something and seeking a solution?

Ok, let this go.  I am sensitive to the social media battles that are going on and the fellow from Texas used the say issues you brought up, cracking blocks and customer service, he is ruthless and very very nasty.  Go to his facebook page and look at what he writes and you will understand.

Good luck with your repair.
