wgt31
My roomate has a 2k STS w/62k miles and her front motor mount has already came apart. The tech at our local dealer said they were going bad left and right and that he had replaced at least four himself in the past 2 wks. Mine on my STS went bad also, but it had 177k miles too. Does anyone know about a possible recall for the 2k or is this just a deal with it situation? TIA William
Logan
The latter Cadillacs do not use the upper 'dogbones.' It is a lower 4 mount system. I had to replace the front lower mount on my 2001 Deville. Early '90s Ford Taurus had the same basic setup. They ate up engine mounts all the time. There was a recall at one time to replace the engine mounts. The first set was on Ford....after that you were on your own. I think all the front lower mounts will fail sooner or latter. Its a wear item. No engine mount last forever. CadiKing
... or is this just a deal with it situation? TIA William wgt31, '99 STS - Just Replaced Mine at 75,k. I think it is the nature of the beast... 300hp trying to get out from under the hood! LOL I'm pretty hard on it, so I expect to replace. Word of advice...Some have said you can replace without removing the radiator. You can...but this is not a simple proceedure unless you DO remove the radiator. good luck... Logan
I think you missed the fact that the latter Cadillacs use a different mounting system vs the 1996 model. Logan, is that a grounding strap related to the engine mount? Thanks, Mike Early on sailors navigated by the stars at night and the North star became the symbol for finding ones way home. Logan
Its a bracket. Scotty
Its a bracket. I will take a picture of my engine mount as soon as I can, it looks like there is a grounding strap that is part of it. I am thinking that I need to look at all of my grounds as a result of the EMF interference that I get on my AM radio... Everytime I see a ground I plan to clean it up.. JIMDTS
I also had to replace the front lower eng. mount 01 Deville However on any car that i have ever owned I always manage to break a mount during my ownership.Hey if you kck any car in the *smurf* you stress the mounts.. Back in th muscle car days I had to make special brackets to hold the eng, in along with the mounts Jim
CadiKing
... Back in th muscle car days I had to make special brackets to hold the eng, in along with the mounts Jim JIMDTS, I'll agree with you there... My father used to make cables with eyelet ends at work for my friends and I to bolt in along side the motor mounts... especially driver side. LOL I just changed the front mount on my STS in December, and as I laid under it I was thinking of making a cable-strap to keep the engine in place the next time the mount breaks... Rickm6
Just replaced my 99 STS motor mount with 38K miles on the thing. Seems awfully early but I like to put my foot in it so I'm not complaining too much. BTW, the service writer at the dealer told me they are very common on the N*

an01sts
I have been running the dogshit out of cars since 1974, and I have never broken a motor mount. Oh some motor mounts last forever: I have a 69 Firebird 400--owner since 1977--with 650k on it. 5 engines, 7 transmissions 2 rears, and countless u-joints, all of which has been held in place with orgional motor mounts.
