droger03
I have just acquired a 99 Deville concours from a friend for $900.00 with a no start condition. The car was running and then he bought another car so it sat for a while. The problem is water got in the trunk and flooded part of the inside of the car. THe electronics on the back of the rear seat were damp with the bcm having the most water on it. I replaced all of the relays that were on the back of the seat and dried everything out. All of the fuses in the back and under the hood are good. I checked them with a voltage tester to be sure. The problem the car has is that when ou turn the key to the on position, the ac controls don't work, I can't even get into pcm onboard diagnostics, the dash says service air bag sys, theft system problem, and the PRND321 indicator lights up and flashes at the same time. THe car will start and run for about 3 seconds and then it shufts off. It is not cutting fuel though (I verified this with a test light on the fuel pump circuit) so it must be cutting the ignition. It seems to me like something is not getting power. I think it may be the BCM because when I unplugged it the dash goes dark. Like I also said my ac/heater controls do not come on at all. Any help would be apprecited. The dealer wants $320.00 for a new BCM and it's not returnable. I just want to be sure before I drop the cash on this piece
32v_dohc
I think you will find the reason it stops running is that the injectors stop firing. This is part of the antitheft strategy. Since you have a theft system problem this would be normal. I would also hold off on replacing anything. Water will most likely not damage the control modules but it may quickly corrode the connection. I would start by chasing power and grounds to the instrument panel. You need to get diagnosistic back. The panel should work correctly regardless of the health of the other modules. Once you get diagnostics back it should lead you in the right direction on the other modules. droger03
I tried to trace all of the grounds and they all seem fine. THere was a little corrosion on the terminal under the hood the goes from the battery to the main fuse panel but other than that everything semmed okay. TDK
Maybe you could work out an arrangement with a salvage yard to swap parts from another 99 Caddy and pay them double their regular price for what ever works? It still might be cheaper than new parts and guessing wrong just once. I have washed circuit boards before on purpose and like 32v_dohc noted, they usually handle it OK (if dry before powered up) Did you dry the board insides out with a warm air gun and leave some dessiccant in a packet inside? Maybe run a de-humidifier inside for a while? Good luck with your bargain beauty Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning. droger03
One question I have is what would make the PRNDL321 indicator flash constantly when the car is turned on. the heater/ac controls do not work so I can not get into diagnostics. Could the programmer be out and that is why the heater/ac controls do not work?
