Hippy65
Car was fine and then one day the transmission stopped shifting into 3rd. Then the check engine light came on. I went and had a diagnostic code search done and it came back with P0730 and P1700. Everyone I have called says this means I need to get a new transmission. Could it be the TCM instead or something else?
32v_dohc
P730 is incorrect gear ratio. The other is TCM request for Malfuction lamp. I would start with is the fluid burned. If it smells burned the trans is likely toast. If it doesn't you might look at things that might stop the upshift. A leaking shift soleniod or a stuck shift valve may prevent the upshift. Hippy65
Thanks for the info. I am going to drop the pan and check the fluid, at that time will I be able to see the shift solenoid or a stuck shift valve? Not having a repair book for this car has me flying blind. Also, could low transmission fluid cause this problem?
PAUL T
If your tranny fluid was low, top it off, clear the codes and see if the problem comes back. Low fluid will cause shift problems. You should be able to see the shift solenoids with the pan off, but top the fluid off and see if that does the trick before you pull the bottom pan.
