ACM Codes B1340H and B1341H - 98 Eldorado

Recommended Posts

Ok, had a B1348 current code - Very Low Refrigerant because I had a leaking Low Pressure Switch, here is a photo of the switch, it was dripping oil.

I replaced the switch with an AC Delco part. I had the system evacuated to -30 PSI and recharged with 2 oz. of oil with dye and 2 pounds of R134, and it began cooling immediately. The evacuate/recharge cost $150

Then I noticed that I had hot air coming out of the drivers side and cool air coming out of the passenger side. This problem is related to the following codes that have been set, they both show as history codes oddly:

ACM B1340 - Air Mix Door #1 Movement Fault (drivers, lower actuator)

ACM B1341 - Air Mix Door #2 Movement Fault (passenger, upper actuator)

I removed the kick pad on the passenger side and noticed that the actuator was pushed all the way to the heat side, I gently moved the actuator in the other direction and all of a sudden I got cooling on the driver side....

I thought I had solved the problem and that it was stuck, but,

I did notice that the lower (driver) actuator was clicking, which if I recall is a dead giveaway for a bad actuator. As expected, within a day the drivers side started blowing heat again with the AC on. The owner turned the heat up as it was chilly, and when they commanded AC, the left side didn't return to AC, and continued to deliver heat. Seems the actuator can only go in one direction. Need to replace the clicking actuator probably and check the passenger side code.

I did a search here and didn't find much, Mike D, had these 2 codes. I sent Mike a PM and he and his Dad never figured it out and then the head gasket blew, so that ended the AC problem.

Questions:

Searching ROCKAUTO and the net, I can not determine if these 2 actuators are the same part number, I plan to go to the dealer with the VIN and see what they say.

Can one bad actuator set codes for both actuators?, or do I have 2 bad actuators here? I suppose I could have 2 bad actuators here, and the passenger side is stuck on cooling. I have not done full diagnostics on each side to see if both actuators move through their full range of AC and HEAT on temp control position yet.

I plan to go through the diagnostic tree in the FSM and I am borrowing a Tech2, yeah!, so I will post more on my progress on this problem, any ideas? Thanks

I doubt very much the actuators are the same part number, more often than not they move in different directions.

Both actuators need to be replaced, anytime the click or stick once they WILL fail again. Did you try your local Cad dealer?

Not yet, I will go to the dealer to get more info with the vin number. The reason I thought they were the same is because they are flipped around upside down if you look at the diagram above and because rockauto only shows one. Thx
