The module I may send to Mike is an RSS module that looks like the 1000 ohm resistor is open, I'm a little big fisted and depending on the coffee intake a little shaky for PCB soldering. I was leaning towards Mikes expertise... I'm relieved. OldCadTech Posted April 22, 2016 Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 I noticed the U codes after I did the 30 min learn but I didn't pay much attention to them. Only one I can remember was a loss of memory data or something to that effect... I cleared VTD codes but the U codes are probably still there, I'll take a look tomorrow. It'll give me a reason to get the Tech 2 out New VTD module installed, 30 minute relearn completed, NO LIGHT ------- it is NOW - Operating As Designed Thank You ALL!!! I'll Be Back! U codes can be as serous as any other code because they can take a module offline. Sometimes they happen when a module is not returning messages or putting out a regularly expected message but the network is OK. If they keep coming back after you clear the codes, or they are CURRENT, that's when you need to look at them. If you have not already, go back to your first post in this thread and put in key words relative to this repair like, relearn, theft module, VDT, etc, you can attach a bunch of key words. That is unless you have done so already. It will help caddy owners find this terrific analysis. If you didnt have the Tech2 would the system have worked or was the Tech2 needed? You mentioned that the new VDT would learn from the other modules? Have you seen anything like this happen before? I myself always look for swelled capacitors when something is not working. Thanks Mike, I haven't done the key words yet but I will. I believe if I would have cranked it a little longer on the initial turn to start it would have learned the key. When it didn't do a normal crank time I "backed" off the starter and I believe that forced me to do the 30 minute relearn. Without the Tech 2 the results would have been almost the same, with the exception of seeing that the VTD module was in learn mode with the Tech 2. I had not seen a vehicle start and the security light stay on. The module had fortunately faulted to "fuel enable" mode instead of "fuel cutoff" which would have been "tennis shoe mode" In hind--sight, the indicator I didn't pick up on was the security light not reacting properly on the previous attempts at the 30 min learn procedure. The fact that the module was in fuel enable - VTD "off" - didn't become clear until later in the diagnosis when I used the analogy of pounding in a screwdriver and starting the car. That and the fact that the battery disconnect and transient drain seemed to "fix" the problem albeit for a very short time. The verification came when I used the no "head" plain cut "door" key and it started the car. That's when the light came on and I pulled the module, the rest is "history".. Caddyinfo was an immensely valuable resource in the process. Having people to bounce things off of helps eliminate or verify diagnostic routes to take. Jim, Thanks for the reply The U codes are very important. I didn't pay much attention to them at the time because to me it appeared to be a '52" or battery disconnect loss of data code. i haven't had a chance to get back on it with the Tech 2. One of the biggest PITAs diagnostic nightmares was the "1-800" or module communication line, which I believe is the U codes now. In the past even the parts department would lets us "try" modules so we could eliminate or confirm suspect modules? Cadillac Jim Posted April 23, 2016 Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 Yeah, when expanding codes for people I usually say the "keep-alive memory" codes just mean that the battery has been disconnected sometime in the last three months. Most History network codes that I have seen apparently come from normal network message clash that happens once in a long while, and they don't come back. The one case where they did come back immediately turned out to be an intermittent power-on signal to the EBTCM. An otherwise excellent non-GM tech had pulled the EBTCM connector while dropping the cradle and the pink wire had pulled off the connector terminal. It was OK for a year but eventually it became a rare but persistent intermittent... But yes, this is a great how-to thread. There isn't much data out there on fixing security problems. As I said earlier, there is no page on B3055 in the FSM.
