FlamingGoatBalls
So I was scraping the snow off of my windshield and ended up catchin the passenger side wiper blade and hyperextending it back so that it crossed with the drivers side wiper blade. Now only the drivers side blade works.....any thoughs on what needs to be done and how much money I may have just cost myself? Thanks
Bill K
Pop off the cap and try to tighten the nut that holds the wiper arm. Hopefully you just loosened it.
Scotty
If that does not work, sometimes there is a safety feature built into the wiper mechanism in case the wipers freeze to the glass, try moving the wiper back to the starting position, it may snap back into the detent position in the wiper transmission... stsjoe
yeah loosen the bolt under the cap and move the arm back retighten bolt if the thing wont go tight enough to hold the arm down slip a few washers under the bolt and that will hold it till you get a new arm, NAPA has them for 15-20 bucks a piece(I broke both mine last year and the washers held them for 6 months till I got new ones) Good luck, Joe
FlamingGoatBalls
How do I get to the nut? I didnt really get a chance to look at it yesterday butI didnt think you could see any of the linkage under the hood. Isnt it all covered up by that black piece? stsjoe
right where the arm attaches to the post it pivots on should be a black cap that pops off and the bolt is underneath (or at least it is on a
FlamingGoatBalls
Yea the two posts that the wiper arms are attached to are both moving....But only one of the arms is...
stsjoe
Yep , you just need new arms, i think they made the post steel and the arms aluminum just for your situation so the arms would fail and not the wiper gear box(easy fix) Joe
FlamingGoatBalls
Are you saying that all I need to do is replace the arm itself. No digging into the linkage? How do I get that thing off? Im guessing maybe lift it off the windshield and there is a a clip of screw of something on the base of it somewhere?? FlamingGoatBalls
Seem to have fixed it. Poped the cap off of the arm and tightened the bolt and made sure everything was where it should be. Seems fine....squirted myself in the eye with washer fluid tho. : )
stsjoe
ouch on the wiper fluid the post has teeth on it and when you bolt the arm down the teeth seat themselves into the aluminum if something stops the arm while its turning i.e. snow, you scrapping the windshield the teeth just strip out the arm, tightening the bolt will give it some bite but eventually it will fail, to remove the arm just take the bolt off and GENTLY pry up on the arm Joe
FlamingGoatBalls
Well at least its working for now. First things first. I need to replace the connector for one of my blinker bulbs. The ground is bad in the connector. Right now I have a paper clip soldered onto the light bulb and stuck down into the socket. Im so poor.
