117,000 miles. The wife was driving and the car quit going. There is tranny fluid on the ground as well as the mid to upper drivers side engine compartment.

Does anyone have any thoughts? If it's a line, is the tranny likely to be damaged from running out of fluid?

Possibly a ruptured transmission cooler line? Crawl under it and look where the leak is emanating from.

So a line came loose. Here is the line:

Here is where it goes:

Not pictured is that there is a black plastic ring around the line that appears to be some type of securing mechanism for this line but I'm not sure how it works.

Does anyone know what I need to get this car on the road again? Is the tranny likely fine? Since the car ran until the tranny wouldn't go into gear, are all 14qts. evacuated at this point?

Ok, so there is a metal clip that goes on this transmission connector. It has evaporated... I've got a new clip and 6 qts of tranny fluid. Does anyone have any guesses as to how much is dumped out when a line comes loose?

The 1997 FSM, page 7-6, lists the 4T80E capacities as:

Bottom pan removed, drain plug removed, 11.0 quarts

Complete overhaul w/existing torque converter, 12.8 quarts

Dry to full, 15.0 quarts

Since it wouldn't go, the torque converter wasn't full, so I would say North of 12 quarts.

If you don't have a code reader, take off the ground cable from the battery for about 30 seconds.
