cadillacjeff7777
117,000 miles. The wife was driving and the car quit going. There is tranny fluid on the ground as well as the mid to upper drivers side engine compartment. Does anyone have any thoughts? If it's a line, is the tranny likely to be damaged from running out of fluid? 2008 DTS
KHE
Possibly a ruptured transmission cooler line? Crawl under it and look where the leak is emanating from. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
cadillacjeff7777
So a line came loose. Here is the line: http://s1113.photobucket.com/user/jgray1978/media/1_zps435eea48.jpg.html Here is where it goes: http://s1113.photobucket.com/user/jgray1978/media/2_zps961a8ad3.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Not pictured is that there is a black plastic ring around the line that appears to be some type of securing mechanism for this line but I'm not sure how it works. Does anyone know what I need to get this car on the road again? Is the tranny likely fine? Since the car ran until the tranny wouldn't go into gear, are all 14qts. evacuated at this point? 2008 DTS

cadillacjeff7777
Ok, so there is a metal clip that goes on this transmission connector. It has evaporated... I've got a new clip and 6 qts of tranny fluid. Does anyone have any guesses as to how much is dumped out when a line comes loose? 2008 DTS
Cadillac Jim
The 1997 FSM, page 7-6, lists the 4T80E capacities as: Bottom pan removed, drain plug removed, 11.0 quarts Complete overhaul w/existing torque converter, 12.8 quarts Dry to full, 15.0 quarts Since it wouldn't go, the torque converter wasn't full, so I would say North of 12 quarts. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. cadillacjeff7777
She's up and running. Took about 10 qts. I've got the CEL illuminated. Does anyone know how to clear the codes on the 2008? 2008 DTS
Cadillac Jim
If you don't have a code reader, take off the ground cable from the battery for about 30 seconds.
