Adjusting auto up & down window

I just replaced the front passenger side window regulator on my 2004 Deville. It was not much different than changing the rear passenger side from earlier. I will refrain from ranting though. The difference is that the front windows have automatic up & down switches. I have been told that you just hold the window switch down 5 seconds after it stops then put it up and hold it 5 seconds after it stops and all is set. BUT now when you push the auto-up it goes up then stops then comes down 3/4 of the way and stops. I have tried to reset it 5 or 6 times and I get the same result. Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

The 2004 may be different from the 2006 but on the 2006 you do not hold it in the DOWN position at all.

When you pull up on the window switch you can (slightly) feel that it has TWO positions.

And when yo push it DOWN there is also two positions.

Hold it UP fairly firmly so that you know it is in the 2nd position and when it gets all the way to the top continue hold it for about 2 or 3 seconds.

That's all there is to it.

If the window is DOWN and you want it all the way up... momentarily hold the switch in the 2nd UP position for just a second and then release it.

The window goes all the way UP.

If you want it up maybe halfway, just pull the switch to the 1st position and release it when the window is where you want it to be.

Putting it DOWN is the same procedure.

Push it ALL THE WAY DOWN just for a second and release it.

The window then goes all the way down, by itself.

To lower it part way... push the button down only to the 1st position and hold it till the window lowers to where yo want it to be then release the button.
