CadiKing
Hi Everyone! I can tell a motor mount is broken because the engine rocks when power braked. Only rocks back when in drive, not reverse. Before I order the mount from gm-car-parts.com I thought I'd better be sure which one is bad. There are two offered. Front and right. Is the right mount a solid mount? Should I be ordering the front mount only? HELP! thanks a million!
jackc
Sounds like a bad front mount. The torque of the engine will make it lift at the front and push down at the back. Both mounts should be rubber - not solid, but lifting from the back shouldn't occur due to torque. A case for replacing both could probably be made due to age (1 bad, both bad), but some excess vibration would probably be the only sympton from the rear. You may also want to take a look at the torque struts (dogbones). Rubber could be bad in them too. Hope this helps.
CadiKing
thanks Jackc, I thought the '98 and newer STS's had done away with the dogbones. I will have to check my manual tonight to be sure, but I thought I read on this board one time how there was only one rubber mount that ususally went bad. I want to order parts so I can install this weekend. thank you for your reply,
JasonA
The 98+ Sevilles do not have the dogbones (the 97- Sevilles, and all the 92-02 Eldorados do, as far as I know).
