93SixtySpecial
I've got a strange issue on my 2004 DTS. When I get in it and the fan turns on full bore, it will intermittently slow down. I decided to watch the voltage and the voltage drops to between 12-13 and then back up again for just a millisecond causing the fan to slow down. It seems to only do it when I'm either coasting or driving very slow. I haven't noticed it on the highway yet. It's not a huge deal, but I am worried that I may be in for an alternator replacement soon. My wife read somewhere that the battery could just need a good top-charge or that it is old. I haven't checked the battery yet since I bought the car. Is the battery under the seat in this year like my 02 STS was? -Dusty- 2006 Cadillac DTS Glacier Gold Tri-Coat with 175,000 miles 1993 Cadillac Sixty Special Gold Mist with 185,000 miles
cdgrinci
I look at the battery first. If you have a volt meter you can check for alternator output (voltage), though sometimes an alternator can produce voltage but not sufficient current; but battery is more suspect. Cadillac Jim
When your alternator is loaded but not turning very fast, the voltage can fluctuate a bit. This is normal, but will decrease if your battery is at full charge. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
