winterset
I have the delco oil pressure switch in hand, and I am getting the courage to start this job. I just recall that I should replace the O rings. I searched the forum, and couldn't narrow down the search to find any discussions on this. I have a good set of tools, and the room to do this job. - are the rings a dealer part? BTW, I am doing this because the "STOP ENGINE" message keeps poping up on the display again. It went away for a few years, but it's back with a vengance now. I suspect the switch because its covered in oil, and leaking.
Cadillac Jim
This job is almost a no-brainer on a Northstar. You might want to drain the oil and take off the oil filter to get better access, or, with just a little more patience, you can work around the oil filter if you are a long time from an oil change. The best tool might be one of those twelve-point wrenches that ratchets, if you can get it over the connector, otherwise you will have to use an open-end wrench. I don't have the size. I don't see any O-rings on the oil pressure switch. It goes on the oil filter adapter, and I believe it sticks out along the axis of the crankshaft toward the driver's side on the front of the engine. winterset
THANKS Jim. This might be a 2 part repair. I recall that the oil filter adapter has o rings that leak. I might have that issue. BUT I might just replace the sensor now, because that might just be the culprit.
Cadillac Jim
Don't take off the oil filter adapter. The oil pressure switch just screws into it and it can be changed with everything else on the car without much trouble. Even the oil filter can be left on if you have fresh oil in the car and don't want to take it off. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
