Rudy
First time poster putting this up for a friend. Like the topic says my buddy has a 2002 Cadillac deville dots with the northstar v8. He changed out his oil there was red fluid on top of his oil. Any recommendation on where to check for transmission fluid leaking directly into the engine oil? Anyone seen these problems on these engines before? I tried google searching and this forum with no luck. Thanks in advance
Cadillac Jim
I don't believe that there is any credible path between transmission fluid and engine oil in any car that I know of. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. cdgrinci
It is more likely Dexcool; ATF and motor oil would dissolve into each other and wouldn't be discernible (in an oil change). KHE
I would suspect it is coolant - does the car have an oil cooler in the radiator? Look for pipes from the oil filter adapter to the radiator. If so, the oil cooler could be leaking. Is there oil in the coolant? Cadillac Jim
I believe that all FWD Northstars have an oil cooler on the right tank and a transmission cooler on the left tank. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. rockfangd
I believe that all FWD Northstars have an oil cooler on the right tank and a transmission cooler on the left tank. I would say coolant also. And the touring series was the only ones to get the oil cooler to my knowledge, so if it is a DTS then it should have one. Cadillac Jim
rockfangd - sorry about the VIN "Y" issue. I've never seen an "if equipped" phrase about the oil cooler in the 1997 FSM so I thought that they all had it.
