davedog
I'm going to my parents for Christmas (PA) and they still have some of my stuff/furniture from when I used to live with them....not much, but too much to fit in the eldo..lol. Anyway, my wife-to-be's father has a small trailer that he is letting me use, and I just ordered a hitch special made for my car. Any driving tips, suggestions....600 mile trip, will go up with an empty load, then come back with a couple small peices of furniture and some boxes of stuff. My eldo has the 4.9 V8 - how will she do? THANKS! -dave Crystal Red Tintcoat Exterior | Shale/Brownstone Interior | 32k
Poobah
Some tips: 1. Avoid WOT's 2. Keep to the speed limit (in most states its slower if you're towing a trailer) 3. Be sure everthing is well tied down 4. Enjoy your trip Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
sprucegoose
Yes, those are all good tips, especially about keeping a secure load. So many people just throw there stuff in a trailer or truck and expect it to stay there! The wind and the bumps will send the stuff flying. I narrowly missed a tumbling recliner last Jan. in KY with the Eldo. I swerved as it flew past my car and it nailed the guy behind me in a new Range Rover! I sped up and caught up to the guy who's truck it flew off, and motioned for him to pull over. He saw what had happened in his mirror and stopped. Another thing you may want to consider is leaving the trans in 3rd, especially when climbing any kind of hills. Towing in OD is very hard on most trans. and can overheat them, especially if it is a heavier load. Make sure your wiring harness is done right, and monitor it occaisionally. Put some kind of lock through the coupler once it is on. All the boucing around can flip an old tired coupler open, sendind the trailer on a wild ride if the safety chains don't hold! Too many people overlook this as well. I witnessed two boat-trailer accidents. I think these are probabaly more common as people just pull the boat up on from the launch and forget to properly secure them. One guy we came upon was trying to retreive his new ski-boat from 50 yds. in the woods when it flew off his trailer while he was taking it to the storage facility! Good luck, and enjoy the trip!
