jorgenw

-- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Caddymange
Do you think the crank shaft sensor can go from ok to fail completely in a snap like this? Or the cam sensor. The wiring to the cam sensor seem to be ok when connecting a voltmeter. The reading I dont remember. Was hard to get a stable reading there when cranking the engine. Cadillac Jim
No, the cam and crank sensors usually go slowly or intermittently when they go, and the cam and crankshaft sensors don't usually go bad on the 1999 models. That's why I think looking at the wiring and connectors first is a good idea. The cam and crank sensors are magnetic pickups, I believe, so the sensors themselves are fine wire coils and a shaped ferrite core. So, a simple resistance check should reveal whether they are open or shorted, or good. I'll venture that this is a vacuum leak, not a bad sensor. Bad crank or cam sensors will throw a code, with we don't see here. Cadillac Jim
Excuse me, I re-read this thread and my post is incorrect. Often a bad crankshaft sensor will NOT throw a code.
