New sedan choices?

I have Seville. Strange to admit I was not keeping up on new caddy cars. I see there is the Ats, cts, xts. Basically the same car, just slightly different sizes. They practically share the same motors. Ok, welcome to the future. So, I was wondering what a buyer could expect to pay for a platinum xts with a 64k msrp? What are people eventually paying with a typical new car "discount"? I see new trucks with 35k msrp going for 25k. Is 10k reduction typical for a xts?

You can look on kbb.com for "expected average" new car prices but I find those prices a bit biased toward the dealers; perhaps that is because they are "average" and dealers are more experienced in selling cars than most people are at buying cars which results in a bias in the averages. Another way is to use a buying price comparison service like cars.com but even there the prices that dealers put on these web sites may or may not be their best price, knowing that there is the possibility of draining their inventory for lower markups when they can make more money by keeping cars on the lot for walk-in and other direct buyers.

I have some tricks that I learned when I was young and have made good use of them with new car dealers, with a couple of notable exceptions. If you use these, the salesmen don't want to know you, and you must go in through the fleet manager. If you do play the insider hard game, you must have cash ready and in-hand, know exactly what you want (all options, color, etc.), know what the real numbers are on that car, and be prepared to order a car that is not "banked" by the dealer and thus has no financial overhead to the dealer such as inventory or insurance costs or cash flow security paperwork.

So, u walk into dealer. Got any platinum xts's? How much? I know Chevy sells 134,000 silverados and has sold 13,000 xts cars so far. Approx. so 20% under list probably is not going to happen

Another recently advertised price average website is Truecar.com. I looked at it the other day and beat their "average" monthly payment on my Volt by about $120.00. So yes, the prices they quote as average are definitely averaged toward the dealers. There are no deals out there unless you create one for yourself.

What I mean by that is you can use these websites as a rough guide, but figure that you can do better on your own. In the end, it's a win/win situation: You win if you beat the average buyers price, or you win because you have a new car that you want to drive.

Check out any "demonstrators" or "program cars" that may be available, like with 1-2000 miles or so on them, they can usually be had at good discounts.

From Cadillac.com, first start with shopping tools -- build your own -- then build out the options you prefer on your XTS.

For the XTS Platinum, you just have to decide FWD or AWD, color, and Driver Assist Package or not.

That puts MSRP around $62K.

Then a Supplier Discount or Employee Discount would be ~$3-4K under that figure. I can ask one of our GM friends if they can help with the discounts.

The main offer just now on the XTS is a lease for $399/mo but that would not be the Platinum.

My personal target would be a 2012 XTS with under 20K miles for something reduced from Retail. Once you specify the XTS Platinum then the market narrows of course.

easy. i went on cl and typed in xts and got 14 listings for xts. all between 54k and 62k. nothing too it.
