Hmmm -- Not perfectly "near perfect" 71 Coupe Deville

Recommended Posts

Body damage, knock in engine, parts missing often not included in my definition of "near perfect" but the ad seems inclusive

near perfect origional everything 1971 coup deville, less than 22k miles, VERY well maintained and loved. 425 7.0L 8 cylinder engine. the only problems are a tapping in the engine, the automatic temp control needs something to replugged to work fully, and the passanger side headlight will need to be replaced (mild fender-bender). one owner since it was origionaly bought in 1974, and has been a point of pride (considering how well it was taken care of, you can really tell that it was loved). everything is origional and, until the recent issue with the headlight, and the right front hubcap missing, nothing has needed to be replaced and everything on it, came with it.

it does have new brakes and has just had an oil changed. please feel free to ask questions, serious inquiries only, and we are willing to set up a time for you to come see it. this is an amazingly well preserved car and a true classic beauty we really hope to see it go to someone who will love it as much as it deserves.

That's a 1979 Coupe DeVille, not a 1971... Not sure how the seller bought it in 1974??? Maybe 1984? No way is that car worth $5000 with the front end smashed (oh - I mean headlight issue), missing a hubcap, and engine trouble...

It says a lifter clack, not an engine knock. Lots of old cars that aren't driven daily have some lifter clatter, particularly when cold. And, we don't know how bad that "headlight" problem is (cracked glass or mashed-up fender?). I would have to see it to appraise it. But you do have a big point: it's hard to imagine $5K for a car that old in rough condition. Maybe the slipped a decimal point. Or two.

The front fender is smashed up in the photo. That would be a difficult part to find used in good condition these days. Without listening to the "tapping" noise in the engine, it is hard to say if it is a lifter or a knock. Probably a lifter that has leaked down but who knows?

$5000 will buy a lot better '79 Coupe DeVille than that one...
