Why Cadillac?

People ask me, “Why Cadillac?”

I often respond with a rambling if thoughful analysis. I want to tighten that into a pithy and persuasive response.

I always liked Cadillacs up until the downsized mid to late 80's started. I hated them all.. Still do... Started liking the Eldorado and Seville again in 92 and DeVilles in 93.. But not into these newer Cadillacs now.. Still like the older cars.. I still want to get an 11 DTS.. That's as new as I like.. I'm not even that old, 50, but I prefer the big DTS over any of the newer caddys. Just don't like the looks of them. I'd rather get a Vette.. My neighbor has a CTS Coupe, and I just can't get myself to like it..

I like my Cadillac partly because it has a split personality....

Since both the engine and transmission have been tuned for top performance...

You can cruise around the streets going to the grocery store or going out to eat, in smooth, quiet, comfort...

You can take a road trip and cruise along at the speed limit, in relaxed comfort, while enjoying a heated back massage if it is cold weather or enjoying the Air Conditioned leather seats if it is HOT weather, while at the same time listening to your favorite music on the XM radio.

Getting hungry ???

Just push the OnStar button and let them recommend a place that serves whatever it is you are hungry for.

Getting to the end of the day and you don't know the area????

OnStar will reserve your favorite hotel for you and then tell you how to get to it.

In a hurry??

With 330 HP (according to Bruce's instrumentation)...STAND ON IT AND GO....

Since this is the Performance Model, with the lower gearing, 245x50x18 "V" rated tires with 35PSI cold and Magnetic Ride suspension, it will move out (and handle) pretty good.

It is easy to cover mile after mile, sometimes getting JUST SLIGHTLY ABOVE the legal speed limit. (it no longer has a speed limiter)

I do not know EXACTLY how fast it will run....lets just say that the top speed is "ADEQUATE" ... :):)

On a curvy road and want to exercise it a bit ??

Just remember that it is front wheel drive with a lot of weight over the front wheels and it will PUSH pretty bad in the corners.

But it will take them a lot better than you would ever expect from a car this big and heavy.

7 years and 128,000 miles and it is still going strong.

Plus...It is also just plain fun to drive... :):)

I feel the same way about my old 1997 ETC. I had planned to drive it for about four more years, then to decide on yet another four years. This has been going on since 2006, my original target date for getting another car when I bought it new in late 1997.

But, I went into Massey Chevrolet-Cadillac to buy a Corvette. The Chevrolet side refused to show me an option sheet and let me pick out what I wanted, and while I was arguing with them the Cadillac side had me pick out the best performing model available, the ETC for that year, and they kept shoving money across the table because the 1998's were out and they wanted to clear out their remaining 1997 models.

Now, with the CTS-V, I have a Cadillac that handles almost like a Corvette. People marvel over the horsepower and the supercharger, but what I use every day is the world-class handling.

.

you know I feel the exact same way. I love the 70s and back. I love the 94-99. but 96 the most. I am not crazy about the newer models. I have found one that I do like almost enough though. I think I have a soft spot for the 2004 DTS. Either black, red, or white. I worry about the longevity of the newer models compared to my older ones. I also just cant get away from the big heavy cars. Bear in mind this is just my own opinion and each has their own desires. I am extremely picky and meticulous and therefore stubborn lol

I never gave a Cadillac a 2nd look till the CTS came out. I traded in my 2002 Trans Am WS6 for a loaded 2005 CTS V6. Then I traded that in on a 2009 Loaded AWD CTS4 but thats where my love for Cadillac ends for now. The new 2014 CTS just looks ugly, and the ATS and XTS turn me off . So I think I will keep the 2009 CTS4 for a few more years, only has 25,000 miles on it now........

Göran :D:hatsoff: but just in case the question is lost in translation, Why Cadillac -- What is it about Cadillacs that attracts you -- why do you drive a Cadillac?

Good point. How do you explain fine detail to someone who has no grasp of a concept?

And yet, when I DO get this question now I have more answers prepared

Because it is American Luxury. The Cadillac brand does have heritage. Even with today's Art and Science design, it maintains Cadillac styling cues. It is not a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes. I currently own a 2011 CTS-V Diamond White Coupe purchased July of 2011, and a 2013 XTS-4 Sapphire Blue purchased November of 2012. They compliment one another. The XTS is the daily driver and the CTS-V does not get much opportunity to come out during the winter. Its great spring is here and summer is around the corner. More V drives ahead. :yupi3ti:
