1998 DeVille rear AC duct

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I am new to this forum, but I am sure I will contribute some, since I just bought a low-mileage 98 DevIlle D`Elegance. I have a 56 Fleetwood 60 Special and a 59 Coupe DeVille, but the 98 is a different league...

Our car is at our summer house in Florida, and the kids are complaining about the rear seat AC-ducts don`t blow at all. I think I have read somewhere that the fuse to the blower is the same as on the seat heater.

AC works fine otherwise.

Can someone confirm this? I am overseas and cannot have this checked, and I need to plan an attack on this problem when we head for Florida in July!!

Any other suggestions are also welcomed!

Thanks,

My factory shop manual is for the 1997 model year and there was a platform change fore the Deville/Seville for 1998, but the electrical information is probably good.

On page 8A-68-5 of the 1997 FSM there is a schematic of the rear seat controls. There is a minor error in the darwing that shows the ignition positive voltage shorted to ground by a wire from pin 2 to pin 3 of the Passenger Climate Control; this wire or connection clearly isn't there. The fuse for that block is a 10 Amp fuse in the trunk compartment fuse block labeled IGN0-BODY. The power distribution for that fuse in the Deville is on page 8A-11-19. Much of the climate control is on this fuse as is the ELC but not the seat warmer, which is on its own two fuses and the 10 Amp Console fuse according to the schematic on page 8A-143-0. I would look for a wiring problem in the harness carrying the wires between the rear A/C console and the Heater and A/C Programmer, probably at the connector to the Passenger Climate Control in the rear seat.

Someone with a 1998-1999 FSM should verify or correct this.

Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
