Tensioner noise

My Serpentine belt tensioner is chattering at idle and about 4,000 rpm on up.

How hard is it to change it out or can I just change the pulley on it?

It is very easy to change. One bolt and that is it. Part is about $70 I think for the whole unit. Pully you can buy seperate for about $10, but the acutal tensioner was the noise with mine. Good luck with the repair.

Ben is correct, mine also had a noise from the tensioner arm itself.

The arm was half seized on the pivot.

There is also a stationary idler pulley besides the tensioner pulley.

Last month the stationary pulley failed.

You might want to check that while your in the area.

It was only about $ 25.00 from the dealer.

I believe the bolt goes through the center of the belt tensioner and into the engine block. I can't really see mine...It is in the center of the tensioner. Stick the correct socket in the hole (in the middle of the tensioner) and you will feel it.
