tom poteat
upon starting, a/c made grinding noise in dash. Now no air comes out upper vents. unit "clicks" upon starting, sounds like it is slipping gears. A/C is cooling normally, air comes out window vents, some out floor vents. Selecting manual mode doesn't help. Selecting recirculate doesn't help. I think door is jammed, anyone know how I can get to it? Thanks.
KHE
Sounds like one of the actuators has a stripped gear. I don't recall the location on the 2000+ Devilles. The prior years used to be behind the glove box and under the dash on the passenger side. tom poteat
thanks for the reply. Do you think I need remove the dash? I can't seem to figure that one out either. I too feel it is a stripped actuator gear, just can't locate it.

I too feel it is a stripped actuator gear, just can't locate it. I don't have access to my service manuals at the moment but there are two actuator modules. I would bet removing the lower kick panel would reveal one of them. There will be a linkage rod attached to the actuator. JimD
Displaying the Diagnostic Trouble Codes might provide a clue to which actuator is not behaving. Here's how to display codes; http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html Make a note of all "B" (Body) codes and list them here. And DO NOT start removing panels before you have more information. There are several folks here with the appropriate Service Manual detailing locations. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Ranger
I believe the mode actuator is #47 (air inlet) http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/Page_Product/PartDetail.aspx?modelYear=2002&model=Deville&make=Cadillac&catalogCode=66O&subModel=Base%20Model&modelCode=6KD69&seriesCode=6KD&bodyStyleCode=69&engineCode=LD8&transCode=MH1&majorIndexID=09&isBigPicture=False&ddlSm=Base%20Model&minorIndexID=6K0905301
KHE
Remove the passenger side kick panel and you will see one of the actuators. To access the other actuator, you will need to remove the glove box. Once you replace the actuator that is causing the issue, you will need to recalibrate the actuators. Turn off the ignition, remove the "battery positive voltage" fuse from the insturment panel control module. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds and reinstall the fuse. I could not locate the fuse mentioned in the shop manual - I would suspect the same thing could be accomplished by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 60 seconds. Dr. Tom B3377 and B3467 are both related to window switch operation. I cannot locate a reference to B0247. Could that be a typo?? Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! tom poteat
Ranger, the location #47 on your diagram correlates exactly to the apparent source of noise in the dash. Where can one obtain info. relating to getting #47 actuator in hand. I need "Dummy's Guide to geting to actuator #47".Tom

Before you buy parts and break out the tools, try Kevin's advice from post #4. Disconnect the battery negative terminal for a minute or so and then try again. It's possible the controller has lost control of the actuator motor position. And your code deciphers as B0249 - Heater/Defrost/AC Door Range Error What the code calls the "heater/defrost/AC door", the Service Manual calls the "mode actuator". I have a location description and diagram from the Service Manual. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !

JimD
Jim, disconnecting the negative terminal didn't cause a reset. Tom Do you have a link to the service manual? You will not find a reliable Service Manual online. The picture below is a scan of the appropriate page from my printed Service Manual. The door actuator you are after is located in the HVAC plumbing just above the cabin floor and to the left of center; you will have to remove whatever trim panels hide the components from view (a DTS has the console, other versions do not). Your target is item #1. It is NOT necessary to remove the entire dashboard. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !

tom poteat
I need help with the order and method of removing trim pieces from dash. The radio/A-C bezel hooks at top, but what is next? Does the padded dash (dash cover) require removal, and if so - how? Center vents seem loose enough, but I haven't found a tab to release them or the simulated wood trim. Any Help?
