Icetrucker
Hi all. Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket substitutes for Tech-2 Vetronix scanner/programmer? Looking for a tool that can read all different codes and systems. And preferably update software if ness. Have a 2002 Seville STS. Or where to by one at a fair price with original software? Seems to be a lot of Chinese made copies, has any one tried them out? Or know how well they and their software works? Thanks from Iceland. Icetrucker. lothos
I'm not positive on that year/model but you might be able to pull codes through your dash. Try holding down the OFF and WARMER buttons on your heater controls. Should take a few seconds, and the codes might pop up on your display. If that doesn't work someone can chime in on the code readers, I've never owned one. WARNING: I'm a total car newbie, don't be surprised if I ask a stupid question! Just trying to learn. Logan
Lot's of Chinese copies on eBay. Pretty wild to tool up to copy a scan tool. Anyway...zero support for the product. Here is a eBay auction for a new...but broken...Chinese one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-Tech-2-Pro-Vetronix-Diagnostic-Scanner-with-CANdi-/251006060300?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item3a7120870c&vxp=mtr Here is another eBay post trying to warn people about the Chinese copies: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-TECH-2-SCAN-TOOLS-CHINESE-CLONES-EXPOSED-DONT-GET-RIPPED-OFF-/330694224248?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item4cfee96978&vxp=mtr The fire sale on real GM Tech 2's was in 2009. I bought 2 of them from a closing Saturn dealership. Also, technically Vetronix is no more. They were bought out by Bosch in 2006. There is tech and repair support for the older, real equipment. But officially the new stuff is the 'Bosch' Tech 2. There are also official Hewlett Packard versions of the GM Tech 2. Also several different tool badge / labels used...'GM' logo...'Saturn' logo...'Opel' logo...'OTC' logo and 'Mac Tool' logo. Icetrucker
Thanks for your replies. lothos and Logan. First of all I have a OBD 2 scanner that does not come up with any codes and vil not connect to sub syst.. But when I do DIC scan on my dash, I get few codes. But none that I think is related to my problem which is HVAC related and according to maint manual I need to: #03-01-39-006B: Difficult to Maintain Desired HVAC Temperature, HVAC Blower Noisy (Update HVAC Calibrations with Tech 2) - (Oct 19, 2006) Subject: Difficult to Maintain Desired HVAC Temperature, HVAC Blower Noisy (Update HVAC Calibrations with Tech 2®) Models: 1998-2003 Cadillac Seville 2000-2004 Cadillac DeVille 2001-2004 Buick LeSabre 2001-2004 Pontiac Bonneville with Automatic HVAC (RPOs CJ2 or C68) This bulletin is being revised to update the models information with a statement that the bulletin only applies to vehicles with automatic HVAC. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-01-39-006A (Section 01 -- HVAC). Built Prior to the Following Breakpoint Dates: Model Breakpoint Date Cadillac Seville April 2003 Cadillac DeVille December 2003 Buick LeSabre February 2004 Pontiac Bonneville February 2004 Condition Some customers may comment that it is difficult to maintain the desired HVAC temperature. The HVAC system over shoots the desired temperature and blows air that transitions from too hot, to too cold, onto the occupants. The system does settle into the desired temperature after a period of searching. The blower may be noisy and the fan runs at a speed higher than desired. It has also been found that the HVAC system may cycle rapidly between air delivery modes (for example, floor to bilevel to floor). Correction A procedure using the Tech 2® has been developed to update the Instrument Panel Module (IPM) calibrations for all vehicles listed above. In addition to the IPM update, the Seville and DeVille models MUST also perform an update to the HVAC calibration within the Dash Integration Module (DIM). Use the following procedures. Important: The Tech 2® must contain the NAO software version 25.001 or later. For All Vehicles Install the Tech 2® to the vehicle and power on. Select "Diagnostic" from the menu. Build the vehicle from the menu options. Select "Body" from the menu. Build the vehicle from the menu options. Select "Instrument Panel Module (IPM)" from the menu. Select "Special Functions" from the menu. Select "Miscellaneous Test" from the menu. Select "IPM Recalibration" from the menu. A message will appear after the reprogram has been successfully completed. For DeVille and Seville Only Install the Tech 2® to the vehicle and power on. Select "Diagnostic" from the menu. Build the vehicle from the menu options. Select "Body" from the menu. Build the vehicle from the menu options. Select "Dash Integration Module (DIM)" from the menu. Select "Special Functions" from the menu. Select "Update HVAC Cals. in DIM" from the menu. A message will appear after the reprogram has been successfully completed. So I think I can not get away from getting the original Tech 2® tool to fix this. And original software. Thanks again from Iceland. Icetrucker.
