Crankshaft position sensor

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 Seville sls and I have the bad ckps symptoms. My question is do you have to drain the oil to replace the sensors?

Also, I read to remove the bottom plate and that the sensors are near the oil filter. My oil filter is on the rear side of the

engine, easily accessible without removing any plastic plates. So, are the ckps on the firewall side of the engine? Thanks for any help.

No.

Your oil filter had better be at the right front corner of the engine. And removing the oil filter and the oil filter adapter provides the necessary space to access the crankshaft position sensors. And removing the bottom close out panel gives you access to the oil filter adapter.

No. The crankshaft position sensors are in the front surface of the block.

Got the job done. Here is some tips for other shade tree mechanics like me. Had a heck of a time getting the lead wire off the top ckps.

Finally figures out to take the unit out first, with the wire attached, then got it off with no trouble. Be careful with that green

wire holder, its almost impossible to get it back on and it doesn't need to come off. I had to take the oil filter holder off. No room

for hands. Some day I would like to see what the hands look like on those Cadillac engineers. I left the filter on the unit. Got it back

together and spent 20 minutes trying the get the oil wire back on the unit. Finally gave up and took it back off. Still couldn't get it

back on. Took off the oil filter and then and then finally got it to fall together. Then remounted the oil filter bracket and was good to

go. Thank god it now purrs like a kitten but I'm going to wait a few weeks before declaring victory. Thanks for the tips JimD.

....Thanks for the tips JimD.

Would that be the tips you tried to short-cut reqarding the oil filter and oil filter adapter?

The end justifies the method. Happy motoring.
