rrhein234
Recently my father's 2000 deville dhs failed inspection because his "Check Engine" light was burnt out. The error messege at inspection stated "OBD" failed. The subsequent inspection let to the fact that the MIL Bulb (Check engine) light was out. The entire cluster had to be sent back to Cadillac, to be rebuilt. Upon re-installation, it appeared to be working, however, the computer used to read the current PSI in each tire, but does not now. We have reset all the Stems/Senors and several mechanics have now said the stems are fine. The car only has 60,000 miles on it, and is in great shape. My father uses this vehicles for long trips to Florida and likes being able to monitor the psi during the trip. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the psi to be read by the computer? It seems to be running all other diagnostics but the tire pressure. This normally supplies the actual PSI in each tire, not just the normal Yellow warning of low tires. It supplied the information on demand not only if the tires were low. If anyone can offer any help it would be greatly appreciated.
Logan
I don't have an answer for your tire pressure issue...I can offer some info on the 'service engine' issue. The warning lights in the cluster are actually LED's. The 'service engine soon' one actually has a redundant 2nd LED. So to have 2 LED's burn out? Possible..but unlikely...that's why the second one is there. All the other warning lamps use 1 LED. The cluster has to be sent to a Delco radio/speedometer repair shop to replace a 'burned out' service engine soon or any other warning lamp issue. That said, GM does have a service bulletin about non-working SES lamps and inspection stations. The SES lamp wont always light up during the inspection process. Thanks for the help, apparently both did burn out. My dad is upset now because the pressures aren't being displayed by the on board computer as they once did. The dealer wanted 800 dollars to replace the LED bulbs, but got a mechanic friend to remove it and send it out for half. There must be a setting that we r missing . One mechanic determined there was a bad stem sensor which was preventing the computer from reading the psi in either of the tires, but when we took it to another mechanic, they said all stem sensors were working. Logan
IMO....its a different cluster. Both burned out? Hmmmm..$400 or $800 to solder in 2 LEDs ? I've done the job and doubt the dealer could do it. The service manual has you send it off to a repair station. Something's up.. Anyway. The tire pressure system was a option on that year. My 2001 Deville does not have TPMS. It's quite possible the 'option' is or has been turned off (or different cluster..). Using a Tech 2 someone should be able to turn the option 'on'. There is a list of options that can be configured using a Tech 2. Cadillac Jim
Usually when an assembly such as a radio or any module is sent in, there is a flat rate and an exchange. If the IPM is involved, it's RAM is read out and programmed into the new IPM. All the car's options and sensor calibration data are in the IPM so this is a necessary step. I don't know the details of that model year nor do I have a FSM for the 2000 model year so I'll leave more detail to those who do. My parting note is that if the tire pressure was an option on your car but did not come programmed into your replacement IPM, there was an error somewhere that could go much deeper. I would take the whole thing to a dealer that has a good Cadillac Tech II operator that is familiar with your twelve-year-old car. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Logan
The situation has a funny smell to it... To have both SES LED's out...those 'replaced'...and now the TPMS is not working... Hmmmmmm.... I did find a picture of my cluster when I replaced one of the LED's for the SES lamp. Note...on mine the second LED was still working as designed. You better be pretty handy with a soldering iron....I also just happened to have a second cluster to grab a good LED from. Not really something your dealer or the local Shell station is set up to do. I'm thinking the cluster was swapped. The real only challenge is getting the mileage close and then set the options right.
