2003 Deville DTS Driver Door Controls Stopped Working...Help Please

Recommended Posts

Just 3 days ago all the controls on my driver door stopped working completely. The buttons are still illuminated, and the key fob makes the door lock lock/unlock, but none of the door controls work.

I tried all other doors, and they all work fine.

I am not a big "troubleshooter" or have much know how regarding fixing cars. And I know that the dealership will charge me over a $100 just to diagnose, let alone repair.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know there are many people here who are car geniuses, and I thank anyone for thier time in advance.

I ran the fault codes and am posting the results below "both current and history :

Antilock Brake System :

- C1287 - Steering Sensor Rate Malfunction (H)

It seems that everything that is Current is a U1000 Class 2 Communication Malfunction. Except for the Temperature Control #3 Rear Circuit Range/Performance

Thanks to anyone who can take a look..

excellent post.

Thats a heck of alot of codes.

I would start with doing a hard reset by dsconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes and check and see if it works again.

Then we can proceed.

It seems alot of the codes are communication related.

Also note there is a module for each door and apparently the left front door is not workking

Thanks rockfangd.

I will try disconnecting the battery. I understand it is under my back seat. Is it hard to remove the seat?

Also I have noticed 1 other issue since the last post.

Since I have had the vehicle, when locking it via the key fob at exit, it always flashed the lights and honked the horn.

No when I lock via the key fob on exit, it only flashes the flights. No more honk.

I tested to see if the horn still worked at all via the steering wheel, and it does work fine.

If I am understanding things correctly, disconnecting the battery will reset all the fault codes. And I should run the codes again after I have reconnected to see if there are any that comeback?

Yeah all the current codes except for 1, are u1000 Class 2 Communication Malfunction.

The 1 other current code is B0429 - Temperature Control #3 Rear Circuit Range/Performance.

I will post again after I have had the chance to disconnect the battery and see how it goes.

Thanks Again.

Someone should chime on seat removal. should be cake though. Might be in your owners manual.

Yeah disconnecting the battery resets the systems and codes. then you also know what codes are new.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the back seat removed. Disconnected battery for about 10 hours.

Came back, reconnected. Now I have more CURRENT CODES than before.

DDM : B3832 - Window Position Sensor Circuit

DDM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

DIM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

IPC : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

IPM : B0429 - Temperature Control #3 Rear Circuit Range/Performance

IRC : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

LRD : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

MSM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

PDM : B3832 - Window Position Sensor Circuit

PDM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

RIM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

RRD : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

TTM : U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction

I also checked all fuses, found 1 burnt "front cigarette lighter" and replaced that...

Where do all of these Class 2 communication errors originate? Seems odd that they all are happening at once.

If I take it in somewhere, what will they be able to find that I cant via fault codes?

Thanks,

ANSINWA

There is either something unplugged or a wire is broken for you to get that many communication codes.

I would start by looking under the seats and under the dash and under the hood for a connector that has came unplugged.
