Hello all. I am new to this forum and Cadillac's as well. My wife and I recently bought a 96 Deville which seems like a real neat car. I am having some issues with the rear signal lights. The emergency flashers work as well as the front signals. It did have a bad flasher relay which I replaced (that got the front one's blinking) but the rear signals do not flash. If I apply the brake lights and give a signal, that side will go out completely. I replaced two bad bulbs in the rear but this did not fix it. Any ideas?

a few questions.

Are your tuns signals flashing fast?

Are all other lights working?

do you have the rear light monitor in the rear of the headliner? can be seen in the rearview mirror

how does the stall feel? loose, anything

The front flashes fast IMO.

All of the other lights work and the bulbs & sockets are good in the rear,I checked them.

Don't know anything about a light monitor. I'll have to look for that one.

I assume you mean the stalk? The turn signal lever feels fine.

The rear will flash with the hazards on.

Thanks for the responses!

Okay,I found another bulb not blinking in the rear while I had the hazard lights on. I replaced it. The drivers side side marker light was out so I replaced it. The little red lights in the headliner light up as will the dash indicators. I'm about ready to pour gas on it and set it on fire. I also can not find the screws to get the door panel off to fix the window motor. I'm afraid any plastic tabs I try to remove will break. Again, fire seems like a good idea.

Okay, get this. The 3 pole relay was bad so I put in another one and that made the lights blink in the front. So,on a whim I decided to try the old 2 pole relay in the 3 pole plug and the signals all work now! No doubt I have 2 bad relays which I will gladly take to work with me and run over with a fork lift. So,now that this weird situation has come to an end, time to get that door panel off.....tomorrow.

The door panels on these cars are NOT removed by prying them off. There is a flap on the lower rear carpet/vinyl section of the door panel. You pry that up with a trim removal tool and there will be a screw there to remove.

There is also a screw behind the door handle panel trim. That panel is removed by gently prying the panel with a putty knife. Extreme care muste be used here to remove the trim. There also is a Christmas tree fastener near the front edge of the trim near the window. The piece of trim is triangular in shape and you need to use a trim removal tool to pry the fastener free of the door trim. Once you are to this point, lift up on the door panel about a half an inch and then pull it toward you and it should be free.

I've removed many door panels through the years so I'm familiar with how to do it. It just seems like all the trim that needs to come off to get to the hidden screws will break if I try to get them off. I'll be working on it today.

on a 96 deville

to remove the door panel properly

remove the 2 plastic trims on each side of the upper handle. The holy *smurf* handle lol

Remove the 2 philips screws that were behind the trims

remove the whole plastic trim with the handle (dont forget to disconnect the 2 plugs (lock switch and illumination light)

Then all you do is slide the whole panel upward and it will come right off. Extremely easy if done right. Once you remove the panel you can remove the master switch bezel easily and installation is reverse.

Do not pry on the door panel because if it breaks it will not hold tight.

I can remove and install the door panel in 5 minutes flat.

Oh almost forgot there is one push in tab that is right near the mirror on each front door. All you do is pry the panel carefully to disegage the clip.

Have patience with your cadillac and it will please you every time.

The problem I am having is the covers on either end of the handle do not want to come off. I have pried to the point I fear they will break. I have twisted, tried to slide them around. I really dont want to have to break them to get them off. If there is no "secret method" I'll get them off one way or the other. Thanks again for the replies.

they come off easily.

take a flat tool, even a butterknife and pull outward on the outer edge and slide the trim out. Once you get one off they should be cake. I can try to post a pic if it helps.

There are 2 tabs that go into the handle and that is why you have to pop it off sideways.

The cips do break kind of easy but are a easy to find replacements

I got it off just like you said. And I love how easy it is the remove the window motor! I took the motor apart and cleaned the armature and got it working again. Unfortunately the worm gear is slipping inside where the hole in the casing is worn so I guess it's going to get a new window motor. Thanks for all the info people!

consider it a blessing that you do not have cable driven regulators. Ours are extremely reliable, the motor is the most common failure and it isnt very expensive.

the name for the cable driven regulators is the pop and drop. When it pops the window drops and basically the china regulator has to be replaced complete

The replacement motor was only $34. Window works great now as well as the turn signals. I still need an 02 sensor, rear brake pads, and find out what the "service transmission" thing is all about. The car runs good for a big car. I also replaced both front wheel bearings ($64 for both to my door) and I need an alignment. We just gave $1000 for the car and it seems like a jem. Thanks to all who helped here. I am a moderator of a Firebird website and having good members is what it's all about.

great. I love my deville and I refuse to part with it till something major happens someday lol.

you need to pull your codes and also is the check engine light on when the service ransmission message comes on. I have delt with many with TCC lockup issues. But for some reason my Deville does not have the issue. Thank god. but my 97 Seville is acting up on lockup but not throwing a code for it yet. If it ever comes on Maybe I will fix it
