BodybyFisher
There is actually a COP tester, but its a little expensive. If you can determine which side it is you can swap in a known good coil pack from a scrap yard. http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/p-7559-waekon-76562.aspx Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Thanks again for your input. Mike
BodybyFisher
These coil packs have been known to go bad. Some scanners will give you a P030x where x is the cylinder that is misfiring. If you can get a hold of one or a scanner that has a misfire count on it, you should be able to determine which bank is causing the problem. I use a program called Autotap with my laptop. It gives misfire counts and I can easily find cylinders that have trouble. slackeribew
Thanks bodybyfisher I see if I can locate a scanner. Maybe autozone or someone has one. Should this show up on my on dash computer? I'll check out your web site and see if I can figure it out. Thnaks again, Mike
BodybyFisher
Mike, if you look at the bottom of my post here, you will see "How to check DTC codes" or something similar, click the link and follow directions for your year. There is also a link to where you can find out what the codes mean. P are Powertrain codes and there are others systems, like Body, Suspension, Network and Chassis. I don't know if the on board system will give a specific misfire code, maybe our membership will chime in with the answer. It would be nice if you could see a P030x code and not just a general non specific P0300 code. A scanner with a misfire count would be the way to go, Mike Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
slackeribew
Hey again, No codes come up. except history codes and they all where fixed buy the dealer,(Cha Ching)all thou the engine light is on, and i can clear it and drive for a little while then comes back and sometimes flashes. As i said the car is driven maybe 3000 miles a year and it's not really worth a whole lot being 12 yrs old. I do all the regular main. myself. I'm old school chevy guy, give me a 64 ss I'm like certified mechanic,if you know what i mean, but these cars with all the computers and crap I'm lost. If I were to guess, might be vacuum leak, but i don't see one. Do you know who might have a scanner with misfire count. As in autozone etc. Taken enough of your time. I appreciate your help, Mike

BodybyFisher
There are other scanners that you should also consider. Hopefully the members will pop in and fill us in.
