looking at new to me 1990 Coupe Deville, couple of questions [pics!]

The hesitation off idle could be plugged EGR tubes - have you cleaned them out?

I cleaned and rodded out the tubes under the throttle blade. They were pretty clean to begin with which surprised me.

I usually just start the car and go, but this morning I started the car and stood outside it and I noticed the exhaust was puffing. Instead of a steady stream of exhaust, it goes puff puff puff puff.

The puff puff puff means a dead cylinder, right?

Bad EGR or FPR cause this? Timing? Or should I be looking at a bad fuel injector? Looks like I'll be finding that section of my manual that covers the injector shutoff tests.

Cheers!

Sounds like a misfire to me. A scan tool with a mistire counter would identify the suspect cylinder.

Yeah misfire or dud cylinder.

Another car I own, non Caddy, had that same problem and shook alot also.

Turned out to be one of the coil packs was dead.

The exhaust was puff puff puff.....

loose plug wire? bad plug (even if new), does your engine have coil packs?

etc.

Find which cylinder(s) is missing and go from there !!

Have a good one !

I know this is from several posts back but, I have some experience in the area.

The gurgling/bubbling you are hearing after turning the engine off is the coolant boiling from the engine into the overflow. I had the same thing on two 91 DeVilles I had. It's nothing to worry about, although, I'm not sure about long term implications. Turns out, radiator caps wear out and don't hold the right amount of pressure in the cooling system after time. A new radiator cap should get rid of the bubbling. It did for me!

Thanks for the tip Luke. I've had the hood up while the gurgling was happening, and I didn't notice anything going on with the overflow tank. The gurgling noise is definitely coming from the heater core area. A radiator cap is cheap so I'll pick one up.
