coolnesss
On my 2002 ETC, the fuel door opener is intermittent - alot of the time it works flawlessly, but, sometimes it doesn't and I have to use the cable in the trunk. Any ideas gents and ladies? THANKS
rockfangd
does the trunk popper ever act up also. As in when you hit the unlock the fuel and trunk open, Vice versa. Anything weird. Looking at your other post also makes me question if you have a car starter, aftermarket security, etc... Ranger
When it doesn't work, is the release solenoid not activating or is it activating but the door is not opening? If the solenoid works you should hear it.
WarrenJ
Does it fail when you use the remote or when you use the dash button? Both? There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises
coolnesss
Sorry I hadn't thought of those questions --- the solenoid clicks strong --- but, the door remains stationary. Key fob or dash button is the same. Jiggling the door doesn't help. I end up having to open the trunk and pull the cable. Then it opens perfectly. This happens every third or fourth fill-up. No security, no aftermarket stuff. The car is all stock. The only thing I put in is a Bluestar bluetooth thing - which doesn't work. I also have a bunch of history codes for faulty electrical connections - on the memory seat module, the remote key fob, and such. I cleaned the battery contacts but that hasn't changed anything. But - the solenoid clicks every time I push the button. Hmmm . . . Thanks!!!!
hjb981
Clearly, something has started to break mechanically in the mechanism that transfers the movement of the solenoid to the little latch that holds the lid closed. The solenoid can hit quite hard - the metal "tab" that the trunk opener solenoid hits, which is connected to the opening mechanism, broke on my '97 DeVille. At first, it worked intermittently, and then the piece came loose, and it stopped working all together. Using the key works fine though, since I removed the little metal piece that otherwise could have jammed the lock mechanism (it almost did once). I guess that there would be some similar tab in the fuel door opener, which could break. The cable likely bypasses this actuator, just like using the key does with the trunk lock. The cure would be to get a new opening mechanism.
rockfangd
the trunk actuator is very different, larger, more powerful. and it really sucks when that tab breaks. kind of looks like a bottle opener. I have seen a few break mostly when people keep hitting the popper. The fuel door solenoid just pulls a plunger into the solenoid and releases the door.and the cable comes out of the back side of the solenoid to mannually release the door in the event it malfuncrions. If the solenoid clicks strong I would say use a little WD40, open the fuel door and look at the right side where the plunger pertrudes and oil that and the door hinge. Another thing is sometimes the tab on the door gets bet just a little and hangs up on the body. My deville was like that when I bought it. Very simple to fix GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile

Very simple to fix Thanks rockfangd - I will moderate myself to "perhaps" instead of "clearly" in my previous post. I did not think of the possibility of the solenoid working, but not being able to overcome a sticking mechanism, for example. As for my trunk, I plan on buying a new lock mechanism. (And yes, the metal piece with the tab does look a bit like a can opener .)
