BB2nite
Need help with diagnosing dash warning "Check Coolant Level" as there is plenty of coolant in the jug. There must be some kind of sensor in the jug which has gone bad. Is it a float, or what? Thanks.
Cadillac Jim
There is a sensor on the bottom of the surge tank. The float could be stuck but the most likely thing is that the connector is loose or off. You can look for that and see. You should run the OBD codes and post them here. They may tell us something else, like if the circuit is open. I think the sensor comes with the surge tank, which isn't too expensive but it clearly isn't cheap either. If it comes to that, replacing it is a decent DIY job. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. BodybyFisher
I just recently heard that you can buy the level sensor separately, the problem will be finding it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
airmike
I would try cleaning the tank first, its almost free. After removing it from the car I used a degreaser in mine and shook it repeatedly, let it set for an hour then rinsed it. I started working again, cant say how long it will work, since I have the engine out now.

Ranger
Yes, the sensor is serviceable, the float is not. If the cleaning and shaking doesn't help, your in for a replacement tank.
