STS 2001 Indicator lights

Recommended Posts

Can any one tell me why my 2001 STS indicator lights continue to flash after locking the car - and sometimes whilst driving - All four seem to flash in a pattern - which I can only describe as "DinK DINK DINK space DinK DINK DINK " Its used to just do this after parking and continue for a good 10 minutes - but recently it has also done the same when the engine is running or just start randomly long after we have parked it - any suggestions welcome???

See this thread, it was battery related,

When you say INDICATOR LIGHT, do you mean the SECURITY light?

It sounds like they flashed until the until the retained accessory power (RAP) circuit shuts off

Thanks for the replies guys -

to answer your questions

All four indicator lights (ie. exterior turn signal lights ) are flashing also the indicator light ( left/right arrows) notification on the dash replicate the flashing pattern.

I have these codes : pcm p0386 and pcm p01372

Thanks again

P0386 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor B Performance

P1372 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor A-B Correlation

Looks like you need to replace your crank sensors...but I don't see where that would have anything to do with the signals flashing.

If I am understanding correctly....

ALL FOUR of the turn signals are flashing... just like they would if you turned on your HAZARD FLASHERS...

Is that correct???

Jim, I don't think that the flashers would be stopped by functioning by the RAP system do you? That would kind of defeat the point of the emergency flashers, no?

The only thing I can think of is that the flasher circuit is being powered by something that is affected by the RAP system?

The flasher circuit is shorted somehow?

Here is a description of the hazard, turn and exterior lighting system

Turn Signal Lamps

The TSIG/HAZ fuse in the rear fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the flasher module. The module is part of the hazard switch assembly. The flasher module has ground at G201. The turn signal lamps may only be activated with the ignition switch in the ON or START position. The IGN-1 fuse in the rear fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the turn signal switch. When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left or right position, current flows from the turn signal switch assembly to the flasher module. The flasher module then sends an on-off voltage signal to either the left or right turn signals and their instrument cluster (IPC) indicator. When the hazard switch is pressed, the switch contacts are close and the turn signal/hazard flasher module hazard input is grounded. In response to this input, the turn signal/hazard flasher module supplies battery positive voltage in an on and off flashing pattern to all the turn signal lamps. This also activates both turn signal indicators. When a THEFT is occurring, the Dash Integration Module (DIM) grounds the turn signal/hazard flasher module hazard input. The left turn signals have ground at G401 and at G402. The right turn signals have ground at G401.

Here is a schematic of the hazard switch (for the EXPORT)

There is a diagnosis tree for "Hazard Lamps Always On" hope this helps, save this to your computer, and you should be able to zoom it larger

You are correct... the RAP would not stop the flashers.

I just had a thought... I wonder if it has an aftermarket alarm ????

The alarm will be hooked thru the lighting system somehow... and if it is shorting or grounding out... it could cause the hazards to come on "BUT" the RAP would kill power to the ground and thus shut off the flashers after 10 minutes...

Just thinking out loud...
