Whats under my softtop/ragtop??

Recommended Posts

most have a shell that the fabric is attached to and then the shell attaches to the top. Others there is just a pad that sticks to the body and fabric over that. You can tell shells because they look alot bulkier. Also shells usually have the canvas not the vinyl. Also shells will have separate pieces that attach to the tops of the doors too. Im not sure on the newer caddys but in the 80s and 90s if you bought a caddy with a soft top and wanted to make it a baldy then you had to find the trim that went around the back window or any window that the vinyl tucked under. Fleetwoods you have to find the whole back window because the trim is attached to the back window. With the shell tops they MIGHT have the original baldy trim underneath since a shell top is supposed to be an add on.

Your "soft top" was not available from the factory..It's an aftermarket likely. So to answer your question there's paint underneath it and the material is glued to it,removal would leave a mess.

see my 96 Deville has a vinyl top and the top goes all the way from the top of the windshield to the trunk lid. It has the limousne lighting on the back doors. Vinyl sections on all 4 doors, all the way to the bottoms of the quarter windows on the rear doors. love it butwouldnt even think of removing it
