Dasher
Big story on the local news this morning about Dexcool. It said that thousands across the country are having radiator and head gasket problems because of Dexcool. They showed corrosion of the radiator cap and the contents of the radiator the color and consistancy of molasses! According to the story, class action suits against GM are pending. One independent mechanic said it wasn't Dexcool at all but a poorlly designed radiator cap that lets air into the system. I don't know if he knows what he's talking about but he was the "still small voice" defending the Dexcool. In response, GM said this condition only occurs when the radiator has been run low on fluid for as many as 15k miles (so keep your radiators filled), and that there are thousands of cars out there using Dexcool with no problem. Betcha we'll hear from Guru on this one, I betcha, betcha!
jschunke
Dexcool's days are numbered now that Prestone® has "All Makes All Models Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant". There has to be some truth to the Dexcool claims. If it gums it gums, running low or not.
Caddyman
People hear "extended life" 5yr/1500 mi.. so they think to never check it....... that is why you have all your problems... people just think it is ok to leave alone..forever..until something goes wrong

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
jschunke
OK, that NEW Prestone stuff has organic rust inhibitors just like DEXCOOL. They've got balls calling it universal. That's marketing at its best.
