Check the purge line, check that the system and CAP hold pressure, check the coolant concentration,

Smell the coolant in the tank, do you smell exhaust fumes?

Water pumps do NOT cause overheating, especially the NS water pump. The ONLY think that can go wrong with the water pump is 1) a shaft seal leak, or 2) a body seal leak. The body seal leak is more common.

If you think the radiator is NOT flowing have it reverse flushed, Just the radiator NOT the cooling system.

You can have that done at a radiator shop, and they can pressure test the cooling system at the same time, IT MUST HOLD pressure, they can ALSO pressure test the CAP, it must ALSO hold pressure. If the system does NOT hold pressure, it will boil and lose coolant.

DO NOT parts replace, DIAGNOSE, check the PURGE LINE now, then have it pressure tested, check the coolant concentration and look at the water pump belt and tensioner to make sure they are good and the tensioner is not binding and applying good pressure.

Many AZZHOLE mechanics immediately replace the water pump and radiator, its a money maker guessing game for them, and it rarely fixes the problem.

DIAGNOSE

By the way, describe your overheating to us, what are you symptoms, boil over, DIC messages, how high is the temp gage, etc

what was the result of your checking the purge line?

steam is not always an indication of a bad head gasket. Do you smell coolant at the exhaust?

The purge line is the 3/8" to 1/2" hose that connects to the top of the surge tank. Disconnect that and have a helper start the engine. Coolant should flow out of the hose. If not, you need to trace it back until you find the source of the restriction. If the purge line is not flowing, the engine will overheat.

the purge line is fine no restricitions the next step is the radiator we have checked everthing else except the head gaskets

explain what you did, and the results of your test to determine it was ok, did it flow coolant? at the end by the tank? It is not a matter of the line being clear, it is a matter of the line flowing coolant, did it flow coolant at the tank?

radiator is not usually the problem as the water pump is not the problem as stated in my prior post, but if you insist

What was the result of the mechanic's

PRESSURE TEST?

COOLANT CONCENTRATION TEST?

CAP test?

Those are meaningful tests NOT removing METAL WATER PUMPS
