Need EBTCM Connector Clamp 1995-200+

Recommended Posts

In fixing a difficult ABS/TC problem, I found missing parts on my EBTCM connector assembly. They are a retainer pin and a connector clamp. The missing parts are shown here in a 1997 model year FSM scan, with colors and labels added for the retaining pin (blue) and the connector clamp (red).

8A-201-5_EBTCM_Connector_Clamps.png

The retaining pin is not a problem; we have a wire tie wound in the hole that keeps the retaining clip built into the EBTCM socket clipped onto the EBTCM connector. What is missing is the connector clamp, shown in RED. My new EBTCM did not come with one. A recent visit to a You-Pull-It recycling yard revealed that all their 1995 and later Northstars had been removed, cradle and all, including everything bolted onto the cradle - including the EBTCM and brake manifold assembly, so they had none.

If anyone has a picture of this assembly on a 1995-1999 or possibly later Northstar that shows the EBTCM clamp (or if you can tell me definitively that the clamp is not actually used as shown in the FSM diagram) I would appreciate it. Since this clamp appears to be part of the EBTCM module and I didn't see one on either my old or new EBTCM module, I do have some doubt that it is actually used in the cars as shipped, but if it is used I want one on my car. I will use the picture you send me in communicating with recycling yards to get the right part.

Or, if you can help me get the part, as in identify a recycling yard that I can call to buy it, that would be really great. I plan to call the CadAuto people tomorrow, with or without the photo, unless I can find someone nearer the Philly area.

I think you have a misprint.

"What is missing is the connector clamp, shown in blue."

I think you mean red. At least I see red in the picture. Pretty sure your looking for the red part.

Here is a pic of the bracket off my 99 sts. It is rusty but it was still on there and functioning. If you need a different pic/angle let me know. th_mikesphone_00.jpg

AirMike: These are great, and look exactly like the diagram in my FSM. I see some "ears" on the socket of my original module that apparently go into the small round holes on the bracket to hold it. Thus it snaps on. The two prongs on the back go into a slot behind the connector that goes all the way around.

Thanks loads. I will use your photos on the phone tomorrow along with the picture in my first post.

Would you like to sell me yours?

BBF - I don't know if the 99 Deville will have the 30/6 pin connector and thus be the right width, unless it has Stabilitrak. Did all Cadillacs have Stabilitrack by 1999? If so, that has got to fit.

AirMike - thanks; the only reason that I asked was that you didn't make clear the status of the 1999 STS, so I added the question on an edit on the off-chance that the part might be surplus. I hope my FSM drawing helps you in getting things back together when the time comes.

What you are showing me looks exactly like my 96.

You confused me, does your 95 have stabilitrak?, I was under the impression that airmike's was the same on his is a 99 STS. How does stabilitrak come into play?, the 99 Deville has it?

My guess is that my scrap yard has a bunch of Northstar based cars, they may even have a few of these modules on the shelf

My 95 STS does not have a connector clamp bracket like that, and the EBTCM wires plug into the top of the module, not the side like in your picture.

Its hard to explain mine but the wire side of the plug has an ear on it and it pivots on the module, as you push it down it has a a "lock" on the plug that goes down as you make the connection and locks it on. There is no pin to hold it closed.

I have been having trouble with mine again (code T027 left front wheel wires) after replacing hub 2 times I took of the EBTCM connector, cleaned it, removed the plastic wire conduit (what ever its called) and noticed someone has replaced this connector in the past. All the wires have been cut about 4 inches from the connector and respliced so maybe the module came from a different car.

I can post a picture later if you would like to see it.

OK Jim, I just got back.

I looked at about 10 Cadillacs, many had the module removed and the harness cut or the bracket was missing.

I looked at a 99 SLS but it had two plugs and I was under the impression you only had one plug like my Deville. But then I recalled our conversation where you said, maybe they made one bracket to fit multiple applications and removed it.

After our phone conversation, I found out that you also had two plugs, so this may be the correct bracket.

These are not the greatest photos my digital camera is dead

BodyByFisher: That is the part. I was concerned that cars with "active brake control" or Stabiltrak would have a different connector because all the sensors and the gyro account for a lot of the terminals in the connector. The connector has two bays, one with six high-power terminals (four are used: PNK ignition voltage, RED for the ABS motor, RED for the ABS manifold solenoids, and BLK for a ground to the front of the engine block, G110) and one with 30 terminals (15 are used on my car). You can see the two bays of terminals in the figure on the first post on this thread.

But, apparently, all the OBD II Northstars have this connector, and this same bracket. Model years through 1995 won't likely have the same EBTCM. I would expect that the 1996 would have the same connector, but Stabilitrak resides mostly in the EBTCM module and the first year for that was 1997 (standard in the VIN 9 cars and optional in the others). But, your research showed that a 1999 SLS had the same connector - but I suspect that Stabilitrak was standard in the SLS by then.

Please see outside email for my mailing address.

Cadillac Jim...

The EBTCM harness bracket that I posted a picture on here for you has departed the premises!! Mine was rusty and probably lost tension, maybe? In any case, did you get yours from bodybyfisher? I am in need of one now and would like info if you found a new replacement. I will have no luck until monday for salvage search and ebay is a no go so far. I don't have a part number to search either, if anyone could come up with that might help.

BodybyFisher...If that offer is still there for the clamp/bracket I would like to take you up on that offer. I went to local salvage yard, no luck, but I can tell you ahead of time the 2000 deville doesn't fit. Only caddy they had for me to check. I also went to dealer and between the parts and service guy they couldn't come up with a part or number. I am very appreciative.

Pulling the connector by the harness when dropping the cradle is apparently a common problem. At one time there was a connector kit for the 1996-1999 EBTCM. BBF is the expert there; he got me one when I needed it.
