knewitt
The drivers side remote mirror on my 1999 STS will move from side to side, but not up and down. I hear the moror running, but it doesn't seem to be conected to the mirror glass any more. How can I dissasemble this thing to find out what's wrong? adallak
On my car you would have to remove door trim panel. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
adallak
BTW, the mirror face is stud mounted and may be removed without disassembling whole assembly. You might want to pry it out to see what is going on behind it. There are some plastic gears there, looks like some unsnapped. Good luck. EJPut
Mine does the same thing. It could be the switch as well.
adallak
THEN they VOIDED the warranty by telling me that I put BRAKE FLUID in the tranny! I would suspect the switch too, but he said he heard the motor working... The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
knewitt
I figured the whole assembly was held on with studs with the nuts under the trim panel, but then I would still have to get the goodies out of the housing. I was hoping I could just get the innerds out without removing the whole assembly from the door. do you think it just pushes or snaps in and that prying on the internal assembly would get it to come out? I'm sure it's really expensive and don't want to break it! Thanks for the info so far. Knewitt
PAUL T
You can CAREFULLY pry the mirror out with a long screw driver. Be careful not to pry on the housing you do not want to break the mirror or housing. I suspect one of the studs is stripped. You can buy just the studs and replace just them. My 94 Concours only has 2 studs. If you break the mirror or housing be patient and keep checking Ebay. I found my mirror for $25.00 there. Do not get in a hurry and be careful. knewitt
Thanks for all the input. I got brave last night and popped the mirror out. I found that the glass backing plate attaches to the adjusting mechanism by 4 ball and socket joints. One large one in the middle supports everything, one small stabilizer pin and then one for the L-R jack screw and one for the U-D jack screw. I found that the ball and socket joint for the U-D jack screw had come un-snapped from the mirror back plate. I held the jack screw while pushing the down switch to run the screw all the way out, then snapped all the joints back together. The snapping together part was really tricky and took many tries to get it right. Works fine now and $0 invested!
