STS Scott
A newer (2000 + ish) Mustang GT and I were flogging around earlier this evening, and then were blessed with a Red light to match-up. No one was around, and it was a safe area to open-er-up, so I knew we were both thinking the same thing. I got him off the line... but maybe he was just being easy on his hardware, 'cause once he got that clutch out, and that thing roaring (I could hear him gaining on me) I was toast! We both ran to higher Revs in second gear before letting off, but even at that, he would have kept walking away from me had we stayed at it. Prior to the race, I was confident I would have him, or at least give him a good run. A discussion a few months back stated that those newer Mustangs are to heavy... but he must have had some bucks into his. It looked totally stock, however very clean...which is a sign he cares, and thus would invest some money into his car, I suppose. The conclusion I came to is that a) I have regular fuel in the tank right now (Hands down, the car definetley looses its balls when you put that 87 octaine in the tank) and B)I had my G/F and here friend in the car, where as the Mustang guy was the only soul in his machine. Maybe the added weight and poor fuel spelled my doom? What do you guys think? PS: I can just imagine him on his "FoMoCo Info.com" right now telling all his comrades about the pokey Caddy he beat tonight! lol " ...'took my Cobra down t' the track, hitched to the back o' my Cadillac..." - Jan & Dean, 'hey little cobra' Scott

Magnum Rockwilder
99+ GT's have 260HP and weigh 3150lbs. An automatic will run a mid/high 14 second 1/4 mile at around 95-96mph, and a 5spd will run a low 14/high 13 at around 97-100mph, depending on driver skill. I don't know of many Cadillacs that will hang with a 5spd 99+ GT stock vs stock. The extra weight of a passenger will really only affect the launch and first part of the race. The longer the race, the less weight matters.
K2K
Heh, it took option "B )" and turned it into "" Anyways, regular fuel ± 300 extra lbs would slow you down. If that had not been an issue, the match probably would have been the opposite, you catching up after he gets you off the line.

msilva954
While we dont have a GT.......all mustangs have the crappy 1 2 3 ratios on the darn transmission..........an automatic of any car will take a mustang up to 25 mph.
Magnum Rockwilder
So how do they run 2.0 second 60ft times (0-35mph or so) stock when a FWD Caddy would be lucky to run a 2.2?
bigfoo
If you know how to drive stick you can get some good times.. you can also reduce the caddy takeoff time with a much higher stall converter
norbi
I used to own a 2002 GT auto for 1 year till i traded it for 2002 AUrora 4.0 and i did a 1/4 mile twice and my 1st run was 14.2 and second was 14.0 and my friend did a 13.9 with his all stock only K&N filters in them, so that Mustang would take you not by much but its faster. From the line when you drive a Mustang you dont want to floor it because it will loose traction, or when you have a traction control on that will slow you down a lot because in Mustangs traction control holds you for a long time even when you get a grip still wont let you change gear. But still nice race.

Im not talking power....sure the V8 is faster then our 6 but they all have the same 5spd.....and everyone who has one of these knows the 1st and 2nd gears in them really are pretty pitiful...... vantasticdude
But even sort of keeping up , but doing it smoothly & comfortably should count for something . My 2000 GT 5 spd (or should I say the banks ) was faster than my SLS but it did ride like a rattle trap . I'll take the little less speed & all the creature comforts anyday
norbi
I'll take the little less speed & all the creature comforts anyday That was one of the reasons i traded Mustang Gt for 2002 Aurora only after a year of owning it, and other reason was that in that year car was fixed 7 times including 2nd day after i bought it with 207 miles on it computer and sensors gave up and couldnt start it (Second day with 207 miles) But hey its FORD problems with them are normal
