what temp should the cooling fans kick on? I have no oil mix in the oil, no smoking from tail pipe has great pull and all. But it runs hot. Temp gets up to 223 then drops but it allways get high. Lost with this. Checked the fuse under the hood and it was ok.

A quick check is to turn the A/C on with a cold engine and check to see if both fans are running at the low speed. If they are, you are probably OK. With the A/C off or in the ECON mode, the fans will come on when the engine coolant is 229 F and they will go to high when the engine coolant is 234 F. Details from the 1997 model year factory shop manual (FSM) p. 6-797:

Low on

Engine106 C or 229 F

Transmission 150 C or 302 F

A/C on

Key off, coolant 151 C or 304 F or higher (NOTE-FANS CAN RUN WITH KEY OFF)

Low off

Engine 102 C or 216 F or lower

High on

Engine 112 C or 234 F

Transmission 151 C or 304 F

High-Low

Coolant 106 C or 229 F or lower

If I remember right, that is the temperature that the fans come on at...

Unless you are running the AC... then they are on all the time.

That's correct. Fans on at 223. (106C = 222.8F)
