btx5mg
Hi Guys How you all keeping, not been on line for a while as been busy for the past week or so painting the house. As some of you may know i have a 2007 Right hand drive CTS, and live in England. I have just had the front brake pads changed, and filters etc. The is no issue with getting service parts such as filters brake pads ETC. But the can be a issues with other parts here, as the is only a hand full of Caddy CTS in the country. For example a front HID head light is a jaw dropping £1800, thats $2700. I have no issues with my car but the thought of braking a head light or any other part sound's very exspensive. I was told by a fellow member of the COCGB who drives a 2000 STS that the is a site in the States called Rock auto, which export's parts for any American car to England. Have any of you guys heard of them and are they any good. Many thank's Pete
BodybyFisher
Yes, I and we have used www.rockauto.com often and can recommend them. I don't know if it will work in the UK, but someplace here we have a 5% discount certificate that you can use. I also use www.gmotors.com but I am not sure if they will ship to the UK, you might drop them a line and see. Cadillac Jim
I've used Rock Auto a time or two and find them excellent for selection, price, and service. When answering questions here on Caddyinfo, or for reference when looking at my own car, I go to RockAuto first. Others will vouch for their experiences. I suggest that you call them and talk about any problem you may have when you are thinking about getting a part that is rare, unavailable, or overpriced in the UK. http://www.rockauto.com Looking at their listings for a 2007 CTS, I see low beam HID bulbs for $94 (Wagner) or $172 (AC/Delco), a wider-than-typical price spread between OEM quality and AC/Delco. High beam bulbs seem to be halogen bulbs, even for the HID cars. This allows the safety measure of running the headlights on high beam at 75% power in the daytime like most GM cars have been doing since about the 1990 model year. HID bulbs can be run only at full power so you can't do that with HID high beams; you would have to do it with the driving lights or a separate halogen running lights system. You might also look into cross-over part numbers for parts like HID bulbs. These are essentially Xenon arc lights that are configured and standardized for auto use, and since so many cars use them in recent years, the same bulb is likely used in multiple cars. The Sylvania web site shows that your car has HID-D1S bulbs. I see that these are available for $41.63 apiece in Sylvania brand from Amazon. You might check Amazon's UK web page for auto parts; I have found that they have a lot of hard-to-find parts when I do a search using the GM part number. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Texas Jim
Pete, The HID headlights in my car are also very expensive. I have them protected with 3M clear film. I also have 3M film on the bumper and the leading edge of the hood to protect them from road debris. The film for the headlights is also a good bit heavier/thicker than the film on the body of the car. I highly recommend it. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotchgard_Paint_Protection/Film/ I would think you could also get it in the UK. Chris
Yes, I and we have used www.rockauto.com often and can recommend them. I also use www.gmotors.com but I am not sure if they will ship to the UK, you might drop them a line and see. I've had good luck with both GMotors.com and RockAuto.com. Both will export to Canada (and the rockauto coupon works for export), hopefully they will to the UK too! GMotors is a Florida GM dealership (ie all OEM parts based on your VIN) RockAuto sells a variety of makes of parts, but often has OEM in stock. Combined shipping can be an issue though if items you'd like to order are in different warehouses (Each one charges its own shipping). -Chris
BodybyFisher
Thanks for that info Chris, that is very helpful Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
btx5mg
Thanks for all your help guy's, i have now saved Rockautos to my favorites. At the moment i have no issue with the car, but the price of the head lamps over here is silly money. And i do make sure i park it with the front end towards a wall when i can. But it only takes a stone to fly up from a truck or car. The is only one Cadillac dealer in the UK . The only right hand drive American built Cadillacs that are exported to the UK is the CTS & STS and thats about 250 units a year for both models so you do not see many. You can get the V but they are left hand drive cars. I hope that with a car with just 16000 miles on it as long as i look after it which i do, and have it serviced on time she should give me years of driving pleasure, i will only do about 4000 miles a year in her she is for Pleasure only. Baring accidents i hope i dont need to replace the head light units, which of course i have fully comprehensive insurance.
