eldoman95
does anyone think cateras are cool... want to get a comuter car thats better on gas than my northstar, but i still want a caddy. so i think cateras will be fine. does anyone know about the 3.0 6 cylinder? what can i expect from a catera with 60k? any feedback will be sweet. JasonA
I think in general, Cateras have some reliability problems, but I'm not savvy to all the details. I doubt you'll get better mileage in a Catera vs. your Eldorado. What are you getting in your Eldorado? Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" Bruce Nunnally
I think the EPA MPG were lower on the Catera than the northstar? Always found that odd, except that the Catera weighs about the same as the other cars. JasonA
Bruce, I think you're right -- the Catera is just about as heavy as the Northstar cars, and there's an engine with 2/3 the power trying to move it. I think that's probably where the lower mpg comes in. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" bigfoo
it weighs 200-300lbs less than my sts But that doesn't make up for the 100HP less that it is :/ It's also RWD which is nice, and about 20k less than the STS hehe..

JasonA
If you have a lead foot, that's probably average with the 3.71:1/L37 combination. If you were going for fuel economy, and wanted a second car to do it with, get an SLS or base Eldorado. My fuel economy is typically 20 city and 30 interstate. With a Catera, I bet you won't get any better than with your Eldorado. The official EPA ratings for a '97 Catera are 18/25 (with your Eldorado being 17/26). Although the figures are close, I personally wouldn't try one to see if you could better your ETC. I'd get an LD8 Northstar car. vantasticdude
My uncle got rid of his Catera at 72k it was still under factory warranty but he got tired of taking it back . He went through 2 tranny , one head replaced once , the other head replaced twice , computer replaced twice , radiator twice , etc ...... I kept telling him he had a Monday made car .
