norbi
HI I have a question once i read that in Aurora 4.0 and Cadillacs you can change gears manually and it wont hurt the transmission like it would on other cars (did it to my old Oldsmobile CUtlass SUpreme) and just wanted to know if that was just a rumor or it really doesnt damage transmisision. JasonA
Using the gear selector to manually change gears shouldn't ever hurt an automatic transmission, unless you try to force it into first at 50 mph or something. I used to manually shift gears on my '84 Cutlass Supreme all the time. There will be no benefit to do it on your current Olds though. Just put the accelerator on the floor and let it rip. It'll shift at redline, or at the optimum shift point, in each gear. On the 4T80-E transmissions in the Cadillacs, if you put the gear selector in '2', it would increase the line pressure and offer a firmer shift into 2nd gear, but that's about it. Just leave it in 'D' and drive the heck outta it! Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
adallak
I do need sometimes to lower gears while driving down a hill. I usually slow down to some 38 mph and shift manually to 3 to avoide thump. Another way is applying the gas pedal briefly while shifting down. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
