JackB
New to board but glad I found you all. thought i was the only one left who wanted to work on his own caddy! I would like to change my own oil as I have done with all my other caddys but the 2002 DHS is too low to crawl up the ramps. A fellow owner I ran into down south said he jacked his car up in the front-center and used jack stands to support. Where in the center is a safe jack point for a floor jack? I also notice they sell extenders for my metal ramps but the front ovehang on the DHS seems too long for them to work. Anyone tried them or these new lower plastic ramps. I am afraid that most of the low rider stuff is made for smaller import cars and don't want to spend the money just to find out they do not work. Any suggestions on oil change would be appreciated. I have not been able to get under the thing to look around.
KHE
I use a floor jack to raise the car high enough to slide the ramps under the front tires and then remove the jack and block the rear wheels. The engine cradle (frame cross member that supports the engine) is safe as a jacking point. The owner's manual should also show this as a jacking point. Ranger
I am able to do mine without jacking it up. It's tight and I have long arms but it is doable. I do however, jack each side up and remove the wheels to get at the grease fittings. They are darn near impossible to get at without jacking it up. Like you, I have not been able to use my ramps in years.
Bill K
Take a 1'X6' board and nail another same size on it and lay those in front of the ramps. It gets the front end high enough to clear the ramps. Ramp-----_____Car If I could describe it better i would. Its like steps going up to the ramp. Works on my Cad. & Honda, which is even lower. Bill has the idea. My father and I used to use that method on the larger ramps. A few years back he bought a set of plastic ramps for his MGB and the caddy just makes it up and down them without scraping. It's a very close fit and it sure doesn't look like it would work but it does.
