AtlantaMc
Hello all! I recently had a NEW engine installed. It runs great, gets better gas mileage, feels like a new car again; except for one little thing. It vibrates... The only time the vibration occurs, is when the car is stopped and in gear. Shift it to park or nuetral and it goes away. So, anytime you're stopped in traffic or a stoplight, it makes things in the car want to buzz. Any ideas??? The dealership thought the idle arm pulley was the problem so they replaced it. They got rid of the carbon buildup too. Still buzzing... petrov
Did they also replace the engine mounts as they could be worn? I needed to replace mine after I also had an engine installed.

franey
Put the car on a rack , look closely right in frount of the cat converter where the exhaust goes up into the manifold. You will notice several metal shields in this area , Now pay real close attention to these shields , check for them rubbing up against a pipe or anything that could set up a vibration, check the screws that keep them on the car and make sure they are tight. If any of these shilds were bent or loosended while the engine was being swaped out, you might want someone to be in the car and put it in gear so the motor will torque just a little sometimes when they do this they will move just enough to start rubbing on something which will set up a vibration. MINE WAS the center cover over the power stearing unit, just barely touching another piece of metal , only made noise in between one and two thousand rpm with a load on engine . out of gear at idle or bringing up rpm in park . It made no noise.
AtlantaMc
Thanks for all the info.! I put the car in to have the guys at the dealership look in to it. They said it was a combination of things. None of which needed immediate attention. It is a combination of the alternator(original), compressor(4 to 5 years old) and a gel filled motor mount that started to leak(original). Most of the vibration I believe now, is comming from the compressor; and with winter around the corner, I can wait until next summer for that fix. Thanks again for the feedback! PAUL T
There is a belt that will bypass the compressor, check the archives for number. You could put it on until you have a chance to replace the compressor.

AtlantaMc
How much would in cost for a new northstar engine installed. Not that I need need a new one, but just out of curiousity; for future consideration. What would a 4.6 northstar go for. I spent about 8100.00 to have the new engine installed; which included a 3 year 50.000 mile warrantee. I've taken perfect care of the car over the years, which the guys at the dealership said still looked like new... Now it runs as good as it looks! Ha! And, no car payments, cheaper insurance and tag renewal. Mark McDermott 79 Deville 84,000 97 Deville 279,
