blueduke59
Have a 94 DeVille and having a problem. Today I turned on the engine and tried to shift it out of park. All the doors immediately locked but car would not shift out of park. Saw that brake light was on the instrument panel and had to manually release the parking brake. Thing is I never applied the parking brake. Thought I may have done it by accident and thought nothing of it until later on I went out to go to the market and same thing happened minus the brake light illuminating. Tried to manually release parking brake thinking this would work again but it didn't. Kept on messing with it and depressed brake pedal (not parking brake) and tapped it a few times and then I could shift gear (auto trans). Stopped at market and came back out and same thing happens. Anyone have any ideas what could be going wrong? Earlier in the day I had to replace brake lights in rear and also the left bulb on the stop light which is located right above the rear seat. Immediately after I replaced the bulbs and left the garage and parked the car is when it first happened EDIT.....now the left and stop light bulbs are not working. Whenever I lightly tap the brake pedal until I feel a slight click in pedal the car will shift into gear but this has taken several minutes a couple times. My fear is when I get gas it will happen and I won't be able to quickly get it out
CoupeDTS
sounds kind of like brake light switch. Usually located by the brake pedal arm, the arm pushes a button on the switch and activates the brakes/lights and allows you to shift. Probably a cheap part. * 1966 Deville Convertible * 2007 Escalade ESV Black on Black * 1996 Fleetwood Brougham Black on Black V4P -Gone* 1983 Coupe Deville Street/Show Lowrider -Gone* 1970 Calais 4dr Hardtop GONE* 2000 Deville DTS - Silver with Black Leather and SE grille GONE* 1999 Seville STS - Pearl Red GONE
PAUL T
On the brake pedal arm there ar 2 switches. One is the stop lamp switch (one plug) the other is the TCC switch (2 plug). They are either bad or need adjusting.
