cadillacjeff7777
Anyone real familiar with satellite radio? I had sirius a while back on my Kenwood stereo deck and I can not remember the quality of the music. This XM on my 08 DTS has fair to poor quality and I was wondering if that was due to the radio or is all satellite that poor? It sounds kinda muffled and not crisp. Kinda reminds me of the old 96 bit rate MP3 files that we would download on accident. 2008 DTS
Bruce Nunnally
This will be a very subjective discussion. My impression based on observation is that satellite radio is digital, so either you get the signal and it has full digital quality or not. Playback quality of course will be determined by the quality of the speakers and amps in your Cadillac, which should be quite good. I assume you have checked to ensure you don't have a DSP setting enabled, and do have the bass/treble and other sound settings to your liking? For example, the "Talk Radio" digital signal processor setting highlights the tones used for talk so it makes a poor setting for music playback. Texas Jim
I consider mine to be pretty good...for a car stereo. Sound quality is more than adequate, on most of the music stations. It is not audiophile, but it is OK... Now, on some of the talk stations... The acoustic quality on some of those are really bad... It obviously doesn't compare with my home theater setup... but I don't expect it to.
cadillacjeff7777
I am not sure about the DSP. Never messed with it. I do listen to the two Fox News channels and SiriusXM Patriot as well as music. The talk radio sounds fine. 2008 DTS
KHE
I have the XM radio in my '05 Deville and it sounds just fine. My guess is you have the tone controls set improperly for the type of broadcast you're listening to. cadillacjeff7777
I looked at it this morning and can't find where to adjust the tone controls. 2008 DTS
Texas Jim
I looked at it this morning and can't find where to adjust the tone controls. On the right hand side... Push the "MENU" button.. Then push the "SOUND" button... You can adjust bass, treble, balance, fade and there are several options for how you want it to sound...

I manage the IT department of an international corporation but can't figure out the darn radio. Go figure... lol 2008 DTS
